Soviet Question on Long Service medals
Christophe replied to Hauptmann's topic in Russia: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Dave, Also waiting for what Alexei and others will say about it, but your "theory" totally makes sense. I'm just asking myself if there is a mean to check the mandated retirement of superior officers in the USSR... Any known source on this ? Cheers... and Happy New Year!!! Ch. -

Soviet Soviet & Eastern Block Quiz
Christophe replied to Christophe's topic in Russia: Soviet: Other Militaria
Hi Ivan, Welcome to the Quiz!! Something tells me you will be the winner of Soviet's round!!! But, let him confirm. We are impatient to see what will be your challenge to us. Cheers. Ch. PS : I think the exact name of Hitler's dog is Blondi (what is quite similar to Blondie, but for me Blondie is more a nice blond singer of the 70-80's ). -

Soviet Soviet & Eastern Block Quiz
Christophe replied to Christophe's topic in Russia: Soviet: Other Militaria
Bravo Christian, you are the winner!!!! Your answers to questions 2 and 3 are excellent. Question 3 was the most tricky one. The construction of the Memorial started in 1995. The first exhibition took place on 9 May 1993. But, the Hall of Glory, the Hall of Memory and the museum part were opened for visitors one year later, on 9 May 1994. And the official inauguration took place on 9 May 1995... So the right answer was 9 May 1994!!! Congrats, Christian!! Your turn, now. Ch. -

Soviet OPW Double Screwback Group
Christophe replied to Chuck In Oregon's topic in Russia: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Hi Bryan and Andrei, I have these two books which are excellent in detailed informations, quality of pictures... even if not easy to use for me (they are in Russian... ). I know, I have to learn Russian, I know!!! But, for my information, what is this site Mirnagrad ? Are they linked to Durov ? How are they allowed to post such a summarised version of the books ? I have to say it is interesting, because, thanks to the help of an online translator, you can have at least a summarised version to help you (me!!) better understand and read the content. Ch. -
France Mus?e National de la L?gion d'honneur (Paris)
Christophe replied to g_deploige's topic in France
I visited the Mus?e de la L?gion d'Honneur this afternoon. Fantastic!! Outstanding!!! I already loved the former version of the Museum, but the new one is excellent. In the former one, I loved the exhaustivity of the displays of French orders and medals. And, I have to confess I liked the old style of this Museum (in the style of the actual Mus?e de l'Ordre de la Lib?ration; an other excellent place). I was wondering if the new style, new look and feel of this Museum would not be to the detriment of the content of the exhibits. I was wrong. Because, not only it is very stylish and well displayed, but you will find hundreds (literaly) of drawers, with internal lighting, to display more awards and documents than there were in the past. The place dedicated to the non-French awards has been considerably increased!!! Photos are not allowed with flash. But it is Ok without. I will go back there and post some of them. I recommend the visit, and as said earlier, take the time to also visit the Mus?e d'Orsay. Cheers. Ch. (a happy man, more than pleased to meet again with one of his favourite Museum). -
