    1. All I can say is that you truly have not had the entire militaria collecting experience until you have gone to a live militaria auction run by people who normally sell cattle and farm implements. Holy ######. They almost had a riot on their hands when they started to auction off Riker mounts full of crap piece by piece. They finally started selling them as lots. 80% of the stuff there was crap, and 95% of the cloth had been screwed with in some way. The General?s tunic was a Janke. The breeches were most likely real. It went for $2500. Fake Pz Pionier wrap, which I should have bought for a filler, went for $600 with real NSKK breeches. "G?ring?s ring" went for $10K with only a handwritten letter as provenance. Fake RM Baton is now a $13.5K paperweight for somebody. I got outbid on a Pionier Waffenrock with polizei pants ? it went for $1550 ? just crazy. I wound up with two Heer visor caps and a riker mount full of insignia. I would have bid on more medals and badges but the damned uniforms were toward the end of the auction and I was trying to be conservative with my outlay. They started the auction at 10:00, and I left at 5:00 and they still had about forty lots to go. Still, my first experience with a live militaria auction was an experience! Don
    2. Thanks, Hardy! Mike, I'll be interested to see if the boards have the screw-post buttons on them - all three Holters tunics I have have that neat little aspect - don't know if all Holters tunics had them, but it would be nice to see... Don
    3. Hi Mike - This auction has more than a few dogs in terms of visor caps, so I am not holding out a lot of hope - the pics they have shown for most of their uniforms look for the most part like they were taken from the Hubble Telescope. I asked for more, but I won't hold my breath. Don
    4. Thanks, all - Mike, I have asked for additional scans from the auction house, and if I get them will post them here - I have no idea whether it has a neck label, but if it doesn't, that would be a deal-killer for me. Don
    5. Hi All - This is in a purported Generalmajor's tunic. Does this tag conform to normal Holters labels, and can anyone decipher the name, by any chance? Hardy, Rick and Simon, here's another one for you! Don
    6. Amazing. Thank you, hardy. The Herr Hauptmann now has a Christian name and final rank. Do you have any information on other awards he mayhave received? Don
    7. It is amazing to me that 70 and 80 years after the fact more and more information is still coming to light. Thanks for remembering this old post, Rick! Now I know vD was still kicking into 1937... Don
    8. I am always amazed by people's abilities to figure out these names - thanks, Hardy! The nametag is actually in a pair of panzer-piped dress trousers that are part of a Panzer Leutnant's uniform. Any Burbanks in the Panzers or Panzerj?ger? Don
    9. Hello, All - I am trying to figure out the name of the owner this particular tunic. Any ideas? As always, any help much appreciated! Don
    10. Hi Paul - It is not named, but it came with a couple of duty and org charts for Feldkommandantur 684 in Charleville. If the guy on the charts is the guy who owned the tunic, his name was Dr. Brey. A tenuous link after 68 years, but it's all I've got. Don
    11. Jeezus, Gordon - I HATE snakes - can you get that vid off of here??? Don
    12. Here's my humble contribution - Oberst-equivalent, probably a Bauinspektor. Don
    13. From all the latticework looks like several Wellingtons are included... Don
    14. Hi All - This is the tunic in question, which I have now procured - named and dated (1940) to Oberleutnant Waldemar Friedrich, who won his DKiG on May 21, 1943 as a member of First Company, J?ger Regiment 207. Friedrich was MIA on December 19, 1943 as a Hauptmann in the Ukraine. As of now, that's all the information I have on him pending more research. My thanks to Simon Orchard, Bernhard Holst and Rick Lundstrom for their help in uncovering information on Herr Friedrich. The tunic itself is a real honey in a great doeskin wool - most likely a walking out tunic. Tailored in Munich, where Friedrich was born. The only ding is a (unfortunately most likely postwar) snag on the collar - otherwise I would say it's in excellent to near mint condition. I always appreciate what a site like this can do - without Bernahrd, Rick and Simon, I would not have known where to begin. Thanks, gentlemen! Don
    15. Thanks again, Bernhard - there's quite a bit online about the 207th JR and their battle record coincides nicely with Friederich's DKiG award date. Don
    16. Bernhard, thank you very much for your reply - several people have mentioned "Waldemar" as a potential name, and that helps a great deal to have a name and unit. Since he was in a J?ger Regiment, as opposed to a Gebirgsj?ger unit, I wonder if the Edelwiess might be a posrt-war addition... Don
    17. Hi All - This name tag is from a GJ Oberleutnant tunic that has loops for the DK. Can anyone here decipher the last name and tell me if anyone with that name won the DKiG or DKiS? I suspect that Friederich may in fact be his first name, but I am not certain - it could be his last. As always, many thanks in advance for any and all help. Don
    18. Hi Jani - Upon further review, I would bet my car that this is a Latvian Special - does the white piping overlap in the back, or but together with stiching? Don
    19. I may be wrong, Jani, but I don't think you would find an RZM tag on a private-purchase officer's cap. Don
    20. Hola, Alonso - I have never seen a eagle quite like that one. The back of the IAB is also all wrong. Don
