    1. If anyone has Cornelius Ryan's "The Last Battle", he devotes a few pages to the Cub v. Storch battle, along with a pic of the American L4 pilot posing with his kill... Don
    2. Sal, the way I keep it straight is that the Prussian skulls are very similar to SS or panzer skulls, whereas the Brunswickers look more like the ones you see on pirate flags... Don
    3. I agree with Juan's assesment - the eagle has definitely been resewn, and I would think $600 would be a fair price. Don
    4. I am way late to this thread, but the WWI German tank is an A7V. Don
    5. There was a great quote in a book I read on the Russian front - it discussed an article in a German soldier's magazine that gave tongue in cheek advice for Eastern Front vets on how to adjust when returning home on leave - one of the items was "Remember - exploding dogs are a purely Russian phenomenon - if one approaches you on the street in Germany, please do not draw your sidearm and shoot it - you will frighten your neighbors and passers-by." I don't remember much of the rest of the book, but I'll always remember that quote! Don
    6. Go to a collecting website, get an anatomy lesson - I LOVE this hobby! Don
    7. Thank you, Gentlemen - the tunic has a few other odd things about it as well. The tag seemed to have been put on after the fact, which is why I asked. Thank you! Don
    8. Hi All - I am considering a Parade tunic that is purportedly for an Oberst of Artillerie Regiment 25. The name tag to the interior is as follows - I cannot make this out for anything. Any help is greatly appreciated! Don
    9. Beautiful wraps, gentlemen - I actually prefer the narrow collars of the first models to the "fat" collars on later versions. Don
    10. I would agree, unless the tunic was flat out stone mint - ie, some happy go lucky GI tosses a trash can through a tailor's shop window in '45 and walks out with one that was never worn/completed. I've had responses running the gamut form "stay away" to "no problem" on the Arty tunic - ultimately, money will probably play the deciding role - I'd be OK taking a risk if the price was right (ie, "bargain") , but I would not want to drop top dollar on it. Don
    11. I guess that is what is eating at me - I would have felt a great deal better about the tunic if it even had three ribbon/medal bar loops, but I have always associated the minimum "two looper" with a junior officer. It's not inconceivable that this was a Johann-come-lately who made Major through battlefield/administrative merit by '41 or '42 and had the tunic tailored, but then I would hope to see at least one more set of badge loops. Thanks, folks, for the input! Don
    12. Dear All - I am considering a piped Artillery Major's tunic as a purchase. Condition seems very nice and there are no sirens going off on it. The one thing that nags me is that it only has two loops for a medal/ribbon bar and a single fitting for a screw-back badge, most probably an EK. It has the ribbons for the 1939 EKII and the Ostfront Medaille through the button hole. I would assume a Major would have at least one other set of loops for a badge or a loop or two more for a longer ribbon bar - it looks like it will only hold a two-place medal bar or maybe a three ribbon bar set. Am I being paranoid? Don
    13. The MSI has now moved the U-505 into a new inside display area to better show her off and to help in her preservation. I have not seen it yet in person, but it looks liek they did a great job. Don
    14. The helmet itself is fine - it looks to be a fiberhelm by the looks of it. As for the shields, they, too could be original, but of course it would be impossible to tell when they were attached. There is photographic evidence of shields being worn on paradehelms - I think there is a famous photo of Rommel with one... Don
    15. Looks sorta like an updated 21st Century version of the bed springs that WWII tankers put on their mounts to stop Panzerfaust! Don
    16. Having built a 1/350 scale model of the Yamato many years ago, I can only guess at the amount of work that went into that set! I note that she is configured for her last "mission", so I assume the movie will cover her final run. I wonder where they will get all the Helldivers and Avengers... Don
    17. Here's the link, Joe - Rick can explain it better than I in his own words! http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2245 Don
    18. An "unadorned" shot without the gew-gaws. There was a 1/2" oval tear in the fabic where some doofus tore out a ribbon bar loop. I tried to repair it as best I could...
    19. Hi All - Just wanted to post the total tunic from Oberst B?chert - the full story of his career is in the Heer History and General Militaria Forum. Once again, a big thank you to Rick L?ndstrom and Simon Orchard for helping me with a positive ID. The tunic is a little salty, but has tons of character. Enjoy!
    20. Unless you need a cane for $10, I would not put a lot of stock in this one. It's undoubtedly some sort of fantasy piece. Don
    21. Rick, as always, I bow before your genius! You have made my day. Thanks ever so much - I will post a few pics of the tunic in it's entirety on the uniforms page. Don
    22. Dear All - My first post on this forum! I am trying to identify the owner of a piped Infantry Oberst's tunic I have recently aquired. I will attach a few scans of the tailor's name tag. I had thought that the last name was B?chers, but have not been able to turn anyone up with that name attached to 13. IR. Any help is greatly appreciated! Don
