    1. A nice old type 1.1.1 (NIB), with a ribbon that has had a hard life.
    2. Newly in, a shortened screwpost so easy to scan. A type 2.1 (?) (A 32.1). The mintmark is straight (enough); I am coming to believe all the mintmark differences here are meaningless. Number 9.
    3. Yes, you'd be far better off looking in Brazilian records. Spink won't help.
    4. Research? Not yet. Has been requested. Watch this space . . . . Any help in the interin? Pretty please . . . .
    5. All is as expected, except for the nunbering on the older Red Star (1923384), which strikes these novice eyes as unusual. (Sorry for the lousy scan - depth of field.)
    6. A nice cross-over group for me, already shown elsewhere on the forum. I present it here to solicit (= beg) help and thoughts. Captain Mikhail Ivanovitch Guzov Red Banner 385124 Red Star 1923384 Red Star 3000624 Military Merit Medal 1458581 Victory Germany Victory Japan Mongolian "We Won" 54271
    7. It was an award for those on the rebel (fascist) side, not the government and its supporters.
    8. Spink is and has always been (at least since the late 19th century) a MAJOR manufacturer of medals. They will never respond to queries regarding this and, if you get anything, it will be that all their records were destroyed in the Blitz. Not true, but it is a way to get rid of pesky collectors and even legitimate researchers. Their auction website is not as good as DNW's (for example), and searching their old auctions online is vitrtually impossible. Their catalogues are too expensive and too irrelevant for me (they pretty much restrict their sale to medals to natives -- of the British Isles -- and have strong and negative attitudes toward medals to Indians).
    9. When I was in UB, they had coverage on TV of awards ceremonies, together with interviews with recent awardees. All in Mongolian, so it went over my linguistic head. Nice images though. So far, they are still awarding (nasty brass versions of) the old awards. There is much talk, however, about changing things, and setting up new awards. There is a chance they'll involve Someone Who Knows A Lot about Mongolian awards in this process. We may hope so, as they've certainly come out with some ugly and ahistorical stuff so far.
    10. Yes, and the US Ranger tab. Guess who his friends are . . . ???
    11. It is interesting that the second officer wears mainly PDRA ("Soviet-era") awards, while Wardak wears pre-Soviet-invasion republican and royal awards.
    12. Unidentified officer, Independence Day 27 April 2004.
    13. Here are some photos of Afghan awards being worn. Afghan Minister of Defence, General Abdul Rahim Wardak, Independence Day 27 April 2004.
