    1. Chris, Nice one! I have several Kunstlerkarten with MG motifs like this. Chip
    2. I don't think it's stenciled. The photo in Kraus and this one show sewn-on numbers, which are (I believe) die cut Pickelhaube cover numbers. They have the same size and style of number. Chip
    3. Chris, Yes, it's a M1883 with a M1891 holster. Seems odd that he is wearing a railway long service badge on his military uniform. Chip
    4. I have a question about this "Guard Pioneer" photo. The man in question is wearing a Bluse and thus should have M15 pioneer straps, which for this model tunic are black with red piping. These appear to be normal Guard infantry straps, that is, feldgrau with colored piping and no unit number. Is there some explanation on the back of the photo or some other reason this would not just be a Guard infantryman? Thanks, Chip
    5. Welcome to the forum! Most, if not all of the dogs shown in the photos thus far are pets or mascots and not real "working" dogs. Is your interest in dogs kept by the soldiers as pets or in trained duty canines? Chip
    6. Glenn, That's what I see too. I think all of the field artillery regiments had "fahrende Abteilungen", but only a few had "reitende-Abteilungen". The 1.Garde FAR wore a three flamed grenade too, but the body of the grenade was pineapple shaped, not round, like this one. Chip
    7. My first thought was that these insignia, similar to the insignia on the period Scheinwerfer sleeve patch, were taken from what the Austrians called the "Konventionelle Zeichen", that is, the conventional unit map symbols. These were the small shorthand version of indicating a unit on a map or on a unit order of battle or strength chart. I looked through eleven pages of the Austrian symbols and could not come up with it, but a similar German chart may include this. Chip
    8. Are these things that were captured by the Russians in 1945?
    9. Probably has oil on it! Also, notice the gray collar Litzen on the Blusen. Chip
    10. This helmet was discussed on the Wehrmacht Awards website. I think the conclusion was that it was a total fake. Chip
    11. It's a cadet (or possibly staff) tunic from the Haupt-Kadettenanstalt in Berlin. The straps should be plain white. Chip
    12. This type of sleeve chevron was worn during the war by the rank of Etatmäßige-Feldwebel. Chip
    13. Kammi, I have seen your excellent photos on the Feldgrau website. I collect German mountain troops items and photos too. Welcome to this forum. Chip
    14. That's a great shot! Very sharp and detailed. I love the bugles. I have a Prussian brass model and would love to find a steel one. I also need the Hilfstragevorrichtung. I've also got a unit marked set of drumsticks with carrier. A nice unit marked flute would be good too! Chip
    15. Chris, The one on the right is a cavalry carbine, Mod.71/84 and the other looks like the second pattern (1902-1905) of the Kar.98. Chip
    16. The cap is not military. I think it is a railway employee's. The bottom cockade is original to the cap. The top one is very poorly added. Chip
    17. Welcome Joe, I mistakenly thought you only collected British empire items. Nice to see you have some other great things. Chip
    18. That style "W" is commonly used by Braunschweig. However, the king's crown, doesn't make sense for Braunschweig. It appears to be a Prussian eagle on the reverse. Chip
    19. Chris, If it was before the war, then I would guess yes, but once the war got started, I don't think switching out buttons was on anyone's radar. Chip
    20. Hallo Chris, Viel Glück mit diesem Test. Ich werde den Mitgliedern des Feldgrau Forums darüber erzählen. MfG, Chip
    21. It must be postwar. I can't see a guy that has no rank having a pilot's badge. I know there were NCO pilots, but this guy is a nothing, not even a Gefreiter. The silk/rayon cap has an officer's cockade, so I am really unsure about what is going on here. Even the collar tabs have me a bit baffled. They should have a center black stripe bordered on the top and bottom with parallel white stripes. Chip
    22. Robin, The one I know of (besides the officer's model in Rastatt) is in Germany. I didn't know about the one in Scotland. Chip
