Do you have any ideas whom do we have here? According to the colours of Troddel and its knot I would assume here is a member of Polizei or Feuerwehr. I suppose the cockade is that of a Hamburg (according to the atelier stamp on the photo). Awards: EK 2.Klasse, Ehrenkreuz des Kyffhäuser-Bundes 2.Klasse. Any ideas?

Just got this beautiful photo of a highly decorated WW1 veteran, presumably a member of a certain shooting society. This photo is dated 1939 on the back. Any comments on his awards would be highly appreciated :rolleyes:

It's obviously Weimar Republic-period police unit and its members wore an armband with swastika as a symbol of support of NSDAP. I've seen several photos with just plain white armbands but unfortunately I have no idea what it means... As for the collar patches they look like those used by the staff of prisons but in this case I'm not sure. Anyway here we have policemen from Weimar era. -
Thanks, Thomas! As for the technique, it was quite simple: strongly diluted water-based paint was applied over the photograph's emulsion. All the rest depended on the photographer's skill as it could be seen in this topic - some photos are very gently and close-to-life colourized, a couple of photos too vivid.

No.9 Very large (nearly A4 size!) portrait of the Kriegsmarine Matrose made in the Paris atelier (63 Boulevard de Rochechouart ).

No.22 Very interesting portrait of a SAR-I (SA-Reserve I) Stahlhelmbund member from Sturm 31, Reserve-Standarte 180. According to the Oberste SA-Fuehrung order (January 25, 1934) all the Stahlhelmbund members serving in the SAR-I had to wear SA uniform and insignia.

No.14 Very clear and sharp wedding photo of a RLB Luftschutz-Fuehrer (equivalent to a Wehrmacht Leutnant). Note the NSDAP 1st type round arm badge on the left sleeve (background was blue-gray in colour). This uniform was institutionalized in March 7, 1934. As the new regulations regarding uniform were announced on October 1938, this photo can be dated 1934-1938.
