      MOZAMBIQUE

Mozambique : Medal for the Veteran of national Liberation Struggle. Again no more info available, except that people who have been to Mozambique and have spoken to veteran of the liberation war and then after the civil war,got the info that no veteran were ever awarded this medal. So it might be that a few of these medals might have been struck and so a very few could have been awarded to "selected" veteran.... Emmanuel

In 2003 I downloaded this document from the web. It's a copy of the award document of Eduardo Mondlane 1st degree to Maria de Lurdes Mutola, who was the first mozambican citizen to won a Gold Olympic Medal in Olympic Games in Sydney in summer 2000.She ran the 800 meters. She already got a Bronze Medal ,also on 800 meters in Olympic Games Atlanta in 1996. Here is first part of the document. Emmanuel

      MOZAMBIQUE

The second highest Order of Mozambique seems to be Order of Eduardo Mondlane who was a Hero of the struggle for Independence and first president of FRELIMO.Actually Order of Eduardo Mondlane is the highest award for mozambican citizen. This Order exist in 3 classes. In january 2005 President Chissano awarded the former Prime Minister Pascoal Mocumbi the Order of Eduardo Modlane 1st degree. On same ceremony 4 Order of Eduardo Modlane 2nd degree were awarded to Transport Minister Tomas Salomao,Environment Minister John Kachamila, the chairperson of the Mozambican Parliement Eduardo Mulembue & Governor of the Bank of Mozambique Adriano Maleiane. On the same day 10 others members of the Government were awarded Order of Eduardo Mondlane 3rd degree incl Defense Minister Tobias Dai It is interesting to note that same day President Chissano awarded Order of Socialist Labour 1st degree to 7 others person (for which there was no stamp issued with picture). Any info on ribbon is much welcome. Emmanuel

      MOZAMBIQUE

Hello Gentlemen,in recent topic there was an enquiry about the total lack of information about Mozambique. I cannot help much, but luckily some years ago I bought from a portuguese philatelist stamps from Mozambique with pictures of 4 Orders & Medal. Here you can see what looks like the Ordem Amizade & Paz (Order of Friendship & Peace). It is hung on a narrow chain (first picture is President of Portugal & President of Mozambique respectively wearing Order of Amizade & Paz & Order of St Yago). If anyone have a better picture,he is most welcome. Emmanuel

This is a picture of General Abdoulaye Faye with its ribbon bar. First row : Officer National Order of the Lion (Senegal) - Officer National Order of Merit (Senegal) - Cross of Military Valour 3x times ( Senegal ) - Medal of Gendarmerie ( Senegal ) Second row : Unknown green with red edges - Commander National Order of Ivory Coast ? - Commander National Order of Mali ( 100 % sure) - Unknown commander red (but as long as I know he was not awarded Legion of Honour of France) Third row : Commander National Order of Burkina Faso (100 % sure) - Gambia National Order - Dahomey (Benin) Officer National Order - France National Order of Merit Commander ( 100 % sure ,source ONUCI ) Fourth row : 4 ribbon for UN Multinational Operation ( UNFIL in 1982 - UNAVEM in 1994 - ECONOG - UNOCI ) Fifth row : the left ribbon unknown ,the right ribbon might be from Germany ( Sport Award ) ? He was Military Attaché in Morocco from 1999 to 2001,so there must be one of the unknown ribbon from the second row that is from Morocco (1st ribbon at left from 2nd row looks like the Order of the Throne from Morocco;and the second ribbon could also be Ouissam Alaouite despite it seems no white edged stripes...).

In a report from UN ( ONUCI ),it said that General Abdoulaye Fall ,the Senegal Army Head of Staff was awarded a "Louvor" from Guinea Bissau. The translation of louvor is "homage" in french,so I guess it's "tribute" in english. Anyway no more info and even if there is some picture of General Fall available on the net,not clear enough to see if he wear something which is really unknown.... On 4th april 2010 there was a large military Parade in Dakkar for the 50th anniversary of independence from Senegal,if someone has a cleaer picture of General Fall there it would be nice to be posted here. But maybe this " Louvor " of Guinea Bissau is a bronze non-wearable large medal ,or just a document ? General Fall was ounce Commandant of ONUCI ( UN Forces in Ivory Coast ) and here is the email of the speaker of ONUCI Jean Viktor Nkolo : nkolo@un.org Emmanuel Emmanuel
    9. INDIA WEST BENGAL GOVERNOR MEDAL Here is the India West Bengal Governor Medal with name on bottom obverse. Thanks to Ed for ID, who is ever welcome to help (I do not read bengali).Your book is very much valuable. Emmanuel
    10. INDIA TERRITORIAL ARMY DECORATION This is again a seldom seen indian medal,it's the territorial Army Decoration,a rare early striking ones (unnamed from American Numismatic A ssociation sale). This medal was awarded for 20 years of services to the officers of the Territorial Army. Emmanuel
    11. INDIA HIGHER DEFENSE SECURITY CORPS MEDAL 1st Class Here is another not so common India Medal,it's the Unnat Raksha Suraksha Corps medal or Higher Defense Security Corps Medal. It was a corps formed in 1947 to afford a higher degree of protection to certain armed forces installation in India. This corps was 31.000 personnel and the medal was given on a scale of 2 per thousand each year. The medal itself was first established in 1964,but a second variety (shown here) replaced the 1st variety in 1969.The main difference is the bilingual reverse. That medal was awarded to : " 8794817 SEP. NARAIN SINGH, D.S.C." Emmanuel
    12. Hello Gentlemen, someone had requested a picture of the Videsh Seva with Bar Korea,so here is one. Attributed to "JC-10-579 NB-SUB. RAN SINGH, JAT R." Emmanuel
    13. Hello Sir, You're not alone to have been in trouble with chalabiani,he responded ounce extremely rough to a request. And as I replied him that his business ability should apply him for Nobel Prize Economy category "Pizza - Ice Cream" he then threatened me..... Actually this person know absolutely nothing in Orders & Medals,as he ever "copy" the catalogue description from the auction catalogue in which he buy his medals. He's a total 0 with an agressive and arrogant behaviour. By the way there is no fake of Oak Crown and the one he has on his web site is of course a real one. Just recently one sided extremely poor made one's by Gode have surfaced in Germany as "collector set".You've certainly seen them on ebay Germany and even sometimes on ebay.com. The most copied Luxembourg award is the Military Medal and also some recently made War Cross WWII. Original War Cross WWII are of dark bronze & have very sharp details. Emmanuel
    14. Hello Sir,if I have written that I would be happy to purchase one,it is because that one is only from my data bank, not from my collection. Even living in Belgium it's never that easy to get recent dutch medal, maybe there is less collectors in the Netherlands ?? Or maybe they don't want to share ? I know there is militaria in the Netherlands, but I still wait for a Medals & Orders only fair to be organised in the Netherlands. If one day it exist I will go almost all the times it could be organised... Emmanuel
    15. Does anyone can provide some information on this recently instituted dutch medal. I guess it's a high ranking operational award, but I have no info on it. The reverse read : " Koninkrijk der Nederlenden " around center and in center " Minister van Defensie " in 3 lines + hallmarks. I just know that at least one such medal was awarded to an officer of the United Arab Emirates Army. If anyone has one for sale,I might be very interested (who knows). Emmanuel
    16. A third Netherlands Multi National Peace Keeping Operation Commemorative Medal. With claps number for a 2nd tour of mission. Emmanuel
    17. These are 2 Netherlands Multi National Peace Keeping Operation ( Operation not related with U.N. ).This medal was instituted in 1982 and was obsolete by 2001 when it was replaced by a new medal which is now awarded for all Peace Keeping Operation (with or without U.N.) The one with blue & yellow edge was used for Irak 1991 War and lots of Military Operation around Irak up to 1998. More info on these ribbon for Multi National Operation there : www.mymedals.eu/MissionFrame.html Very helpfull & interesting. Emmanuel
    18. It is possible Morocco recently instituted a rosette to be worn on the ribbon of the Exceptionnal Class that you now own. Emmanuel
    19. The ribbon for the Medal of Labour of Cameroon is red & white of 32 millimeters width. Nicolas de Roffignac who published a book on African Orders & Medals in 2000 wrote the ribbon to be red/white and he did research on official text for his book (page 39).It's a more reliable source of information. Also the medal I own in my collection and which I got from Company Huguenin (one of the manufacturer) was fitted with this ribbon too. Megan based her reply on the picture available on the site of Ed Emering, but the ribbon red/green is a very common ribbon that is actually the actual ribbon of the Medal of Merit of Mwabutsa IV of the Kingdom of Burundi (1962-66). Emmanuel
    20. I got mine with a white ribbon with red edged stripe. The blue ribbon with tiny yellow & whithe stripes seems more correct. Which auction is it ? Is it already sold ? Emmanuel
    21. Practically, but not exactly. The Jordan Medal is 10 % bigger : 50 millimeters instead of 46 for the Saudi. The Jordan has 20 tips, the Saudi has 15 tips. Even if the center sketch is similar again there is a difference in size, the Jordan is 31 millimeters from left scroll to right scroll, and the Saudi Medal is 33 millimeters. The quality of the Jordan medal is higher. Emmanuel

      TCHAD

This is the Civic Merit Order with its ribbon. The colours are matching the colours of the National Flag of Chad (Tchad). It's still possible to get ribbon with rosette by Arthus Bertrand, but if my memory is correct, the price for a ribbon with rosette is 26 € (Arthus Bertrand as the others manufacturers from Paris is very expensive for the ribbon).A straight ribbon with no rosette could be found elswhere cheaper. Emmanuel
    23. Here you can see a breast star of the Order of Duarte (grade of Grand Cross with Silver Breast Star). That one is manufactured by La Royale of Rio do Janeiro (a well known manufacturer). You can see the difference of manufacture with the military division set posted above, watch the edges of the breast star. On the military set the edges are guilloched,on the civil division breast star below the edge are smooth. This star is 82 millimeters wide. Emmanuel
    24. The Order of Duarte as the Order of Duarte Sanchez & Mella exist in both Civil & Military Division. Here a picture of a rare set of the Grand Cross of the Military Division. Emmanuel
