Just found out these flag pole tops are French, and used during the 1896 Czar Nicholas and Alexandra Feodorovna's Visits to France. Nice piece found at a French Flea Market. George

Heres a piece I picked up recently. These seem to come from France. I have run across a few but only one 1/2, its double sided and only sodered on the base. Could these have been used by the public during the Czars visits to France pre war? Made of gilt brass stamping. George

If I remember correctly When reaching 6 digits the No: was dropped and above the 6 digit the 1Mil was added the the top arm. Weather in white metal of silver its all in the details. Not much detail in the cross posted showing little wear. It looks like a casting. George

The only other thing I can add is it looks like th II is missing from the observer badges under Nickolas Cypher. With a gilt wreath and looks to me a gold shield and crown also having golden hilts on swords. My reference states. Badge for the flyer-observer, awarded to the officers of the general staff who finished the course of studies in aeronautic training troops to carry out air photography and correction fire. George

I dont see any problems with the first badge.. Can you point out your concerns? Granted collectors here in the US dont run accross these all the time. So comparing badges is not exactly plausable. I dont know anything about the second badge posted. Chuck scans his pics so the quality isnt the best. But in general they look OK to me. Ebay is full of copies and i have not seen any that compare to this badge. George

WOW! Chuck, Thoses are some real nice badges.. The first one looks hallmarked Eduard? Pilot observer. The second I think I have seen without the top ribbon. I'll check when I get home. These things just never come up on the openmarket. And if they do the prices are astromical! I my opinion Imp. Russian aviation are the rarist. Here's a bett scan of the officer. looks like three stars on the boards. The Chinese officer was a colonel. This picture was taken around the time of the manchurian incident. I was told The Chinese officer died in 1929 in an accident. May be he was killed during this period after Chang Tso lin was killed by the Japanese? George
