    1. Andy, it's a good question. Interesting, Fußartillerie Regt. 19 is.... Kgl. Sächs. 2. Fußartillerie-Regiment Nr.19 from Dresden FuAR 19 wore a green Waffenrock with red collar and Sachsen cuffs with "squared" green straps w/ red piping w/ exploding bomb w/ red 19. Our lazy guy in front could be lost from FuAR 19... And now that I zoom more on the shoulder straps of our EK2 heroes in the back... I see that there is only a "19" and no exploding bomb. They also look to be piped on the edge in a lighter color. They would match the fact that on the first feldgrau uniforms the Fußartillerie shoulder straps were field gray with white piping and red unit numbers (thanks to Chip from another past thread!). So... Here it now looks like we have a bunch of old guys from Kgl. Sächs. 2. Fußartillerie-Regiment Nr.19 You can sleep easy now Andy! (PS: Rick Research's words of advice to never collect foot artillery are ringing in my head! )
    2. dante, can you make out what is written on the caisson in the center photo?
    3. Your comment on the leather inserts is enough to convince me... I never noticed that detail before! I've already learned a couple things I hadn't known before by posting my own photos. Thanks!
    4. Some big Saxon boys of the Kgl.Sächs. 4. Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Nr.48. The guy in the background with the pickelhaube cover is from Kgl. Sächs. 6. Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Nr.68. The card was sent from Jüterbog Altes Lager; so, like the Badener in another thread, attending a "lehrgang." (PS: You guys getting tired of "Gunners in Uniform"? Because I have a lot more regiments! And we haven't even gotten to the Fußartillerie or Bavarians. )
    5. Ahh, now I see. The city of Verdun was awarded the Virtuti Military; one of only two cities along with Lwow. You want a photo of the actual award in the city's display? Or a generic photo?
    6. Igor, we'd like to help you, but I think we are a bit confused as to what you need... Virtuti Militari isn't really a "Verdun decoration"... Although, if someone won that distinguished award at Verdun, I'd love to see the history. If you want photos of the Polish decoration, then we can help. If it's Verdun decorations, then we need more info.
    7. Uwe, thanks! If that's Grete, Josef was one lucky Kanonier!
    8. I've always like the Luftschutz medal ... perhaps my favorite of the regime. This is a very nice bar. I've also learned quite a bit from the commentary. Great thread.
    9. Nice... What period is this from?
    10. Enough uniforms... Let's get to the guns! Here's a 10.5 cm Feldhaubitze 98/09 (10.5 cm FH 98/09) with the Kgl.Sächs. 4. Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Nr.48 (Identified by the shoulder straps on the kneeling gunners.)
    11. Some feldgrau...taken probably in 1916 (the little sign says Zur Erinnerung an den Feldzug 1914 1915 1916). They are around the carriage of a 10.5 cm leichte Feldhaubitze without the gun tube. Good shot of 10.5 cm shells.
    12. More dunkelblau... Altmärkisches Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Nr.40 This photo is interesting to me because of the aiming stakes being held by the gunners on the left and right. These are exactly the same used today by cannon crews to align sights...
    13. Here's another Kanonier in dunkelblau... This time from Kurmärkisches Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Nr.39
    14. One would think that this lovely lady sent her photo to her lover at the Front. However, curiously, this card was sent by a soldier in the 2. Lothringisches Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Nr.34 to a Fraulein on the home front. I've posted the reverse in case anyone can translate the note to find out exactly why he sent this lovely lady to a lady.
    15. Here are some fairly common patriotic images for the artillery...simple colors.
    16. Thanks, Dave for the updated info. The Google shot of the Neisse Casino is great!
    17. Kaserne des 1. Großherzoglich Hessisches Feldartillerie-Regiments Nr.25 in Darmstadt. Also the Griesheimer Exerzierplatz, which had been home to an artillery range since 1874.
    18. Bernhard, I too have been in a lot of those old Imperial buildings still being used later by the Bundeswehr and even the US Army. Great buildings. Just wish I had an interest in their history at the time rather than an larger interest in the nearby 'stube...or kneipe
    19. Bernhard, I am sure you are correct about the NCOs attending some sort of "Lehrgang" at the Schiesschule at Jüterbog. I have some other postcards of other regiments taken at Jüterbog (eg Sachsen) and it's the only thing that makes sense.
    20. This one is interesting as it shows French soldiers captured by the Germans. The German caption calls them Frenchmen and Turks; however, the other soldiers are really French Zouaves from North Africa. The French regiment is the 26ème Régiment d'Infanterie de Ligne. This regiment participated in the Bataille de Morhange in Lorraine in August 1914; since the post card was printed in Metz, I suppose these are some of the first French prisoners taken in the war. The card is also dated 8 Dec 1914 and mailed by a soldier in the German Feld-Artillerie Regiment Nr. 25 to Hessen. FAR 25 as part of 25. Division was in Stellungskämpfe in northern France by that time (coincidentally, so was the French 26. Infantry Regiment).
    21. This thread has been dormant too long! Time to get back to posting those WWI postcards everyone! I've recently put a lot in the Imperial section related specifically to artillery uniforms, but I know there are a lot more post cards out there without a specific theme... Here's a sketch of Hindenburg...no decorations. (Of course, I have it my collection because it has a feldpost stempel for 4. Rekr. Depot FAR 22 on the reverse )
    22. Hardy, I can just make out there is a brand, but can't read what it is... What is the marking?
