    1. Ah yes, buckets of beer and talking about medals for hours on end in the hippest place of UB city
    2. I do agree with the fact that over-categorization does not help forward our knowledge about this order, but as mentionned in the Soviet award section, having knowledge about these production pockets of sub-sub-sub types, does give us a better defense against future fakes. Unfortunately these fakes will arrive, and with the technology at hand they will probably be good, se we need all the knowledge we have, not necessarily for type collecting but as a safeguard. IMHO anyway Jan
    3. A very nice first type "best shooter" badge, congratulations. They are hard to find in such good condition, usually the enamel is missing from the star at the top. Jan
    4. You'll soon be entitled to one of those yourself, for "having raised your herd to 10000 pieces" Nice to see them all together Jan
    5. Thanks, I will definitely be looking for this one
    6. Yes, thread very carefully from here on, before you know it you'll be over your ears into Polar Star, Red Banners and Sukhbaatars. Do you know if the Japanese also have a commemorative badge for this battle? I might want to buy it for the Mongolian connection Jan
    7. 1939 would be a good guess, this is the medal combination you can see him wearing during a visit to the Khalkhin Gol front
    8. IMHO the small size of the picture, the stamp clearly visible on the pic and the traditinnal Mongolian clothing would make this one a good one.
    9. The rest of the booklet looks fine, but how to remove the pic
    10. On ebay right now: Does this look like someone who got a Sukhbaatar order in 1959. NO WAY I do not believe for a minute that someone who got a SB in 1959 would have a picture in his order booklet where he is not wearing a tie or traditionnal Mongolian attire. This perfectly valuable booklet has just been dowgraded by somebody who is actually hoping of making more money of it this way, sad sad sad
    11. It's not the flag that counts, it's the soyombo. From 1945 on, there is a red star on top of the soyombo to signify the victory over Japan. Hetnce the type 1 badge should be a pre 1945 one Jan
    12. During my recent research in the army archives, I found indications that this is indeed an official doc, it is referred to as the "artistic diploma"
    13. Hmm, considering the relative low numbers of "good stuff" awarded, and the fact that these turn up in your posts, logically leads me to conclude there is no more good stuff to be had for the rest of us Keep 'em coming Ed
    14. My preeeciouuus Don't be sad Glenn, number 1 is still to be had Congratulations Ed, veeeeeeerry nice
    15. That is actually the second awarding, former president Ochirbat got one about a year ago.

    17. Congratulations Ed, very nice piece. On top of being the rarest of the rare, and then some, it is IMHO the most beautiful Mongolian order ever made, and that's saying something. You collection is getting actually better than what I've seen in all Mongolian museums combined.
    18. Aiaiai, the bad boys are learning quickly. Unfortunately the stamp does not seem to be decisive, if there is one that's good, the lack of one does not necessarily mean it's faked. For the older booklets, it seems only very small pictures were used, so an early booklet with large picture, beware!!! I guess this will be a gut feeling decision. Is the booklet in very good condition, but the pic isn't, or vice versa, beware!!! Jan
    19. Here are the scans of the two other fakes I've seen. Sorry for the bad pix, I'll try to post better ones later. The shiny gold one is a "Capral" copy, the other one was one of the first Mongolian items I bought about 5 years ago. The funny thing is that later, at a fair, I saw 2 good ones and I was convinced they were fakes because, I had a GOOD one Jan
