    1. Well Ed I took your advice and ordered this book. Thanks for the info.
    2. A double post. Sorry Guys. Mods please delete this one. Thanks
    3. Gentlemen, I am expanding my collecting to include Canadian awards and badges. Is there a book that you Guys consider a must for collecting Commonwealth medals? Is there a website that you use as a benchmark for prices?
    4. I include a photo of my wife's grandfather's medals. He went overseas and served in Italy with the 5th LAA Regiment, 5th Cdn Infantry Division. Went to NW Europe in February of 1945. He is 87 years old.
    5. In Canada, the LSGC medal for police officers is awarded after 20 years of service.
    6. And here are mine. Two smooth reversed but with different screwnuts.
    7. I did a search of Thomas' and Johnsons and could only come up with one Thomas who died on November 12th 1918. I doubt it is your relative but one never knows. Any more clues as to his name? I include the link for your perusal: http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/remembers/sub.cfm...casualty=321787
    8. Jason. Superb mate. Now this photo has picked my curiosity. If he was Canadian and was KIA on the 11th of November 1918, this could have been at the action in Mons? If I get the list of names of the KIAs in mons, would the name ring a bell to you?
    9. I am considering expanding my collecting addiction to include military head dress badges. My question is are these badges being faked/re-struck? What do you suggest would be a good book on Canadian military head dress badges? thanks
    10. It's such a shame that these documents are so widely faked. Makes collectors like me shy away from all of them.
    11. Here is what orders state: The staff Sergeant chevron shall have the crown positioned 2.5 cm above the inverted point of the upper bar.
    12. Hey Rusty, I'm interested.... is your friend a member of this board?
    13. I'm back in on monday night shift. I'll look it up for you then.
    14. Sorry for the delay Ray, been ectic at work. Anyhow, this is what our police orders state as far as the placement of chevrons on the uniform: The sergeant's three bar chevron with points down shall be centered on the right sleeve of all external wear 20cm from the shoulder seam to the inverted point of the upper bar. Does this help?
    15. I've checked 2 references. One is Kutsenko's Law Enforcement badge book, but it doesn't state the year. It is image 1.3.21 The other is History and awards of the Russian MVD 1802-2002 and it clearly states 1985. Image 1.2.1.32 So are you certain that the document is authentic? Is it possible that it had been purchased blank and was filled in to add to the value of the group? Don't want to offend anyone but the reference book is pretty clear, even for my extremely limited Russian....
    16. You are correct Peter. Gen Crerar's medals are at RMC Ref: http://www.forces.gc.ca/site/community/map..._Entrenous14-15
    17. Guys Are Mongolian badges being Faked? If so, as much as the Soviet ones?
    18. Very nice. I am a badge collector but have a weakness for the MVD/NKVD/KGB. These badges are just as expensive as some higher end Orders now. Maybe one day.....
