    1. We posted at the same time and you answered my question. Thanks Rusty
    2. They are the police, used to be called militias. Rusty, can you confirm this? Are they still referred to as MVD or are they FSB now?
    3. Actually I lied. I have another set of RF medals. Good conduct (10, 15 and 20 years service).
    4. Thanks for the clarification Rusty. I have a 850 years of Moscow and a 60th of GPW. That's it for RF medals. I've also a 60th partisan medal on hold from Ron which I will get this month. Will be looking for more this year that's for sure.
    5. 300th of RF Navy. I was lucky to get it with an issued document.
    6. Here is my contribution to Post-Soviet awards: For Valour in the MVD
    7. Hi Ray We have had chevrons forever (OPP). Let me check when I am back to work on monday and I'll give you the exact measurements.
    8. The Order with the green ribbon is the Order of Friendship. The other is the Order of the Sea Merit. info here: http://award.adm.gov.ru/orden/orden_15.htm Info here: http://faculty.winthrop.edu/haynese/medals...sia/russia.html
    9. Thanks Dima. You gave me a good idea of what they were used for.
    10. What exactly did this membership do? Propaganda?
    11. As an add-on, we (in Canada) do not have a mess dress either except our commisioned officers (Inspector and above). We do have a dress uniform and wear it on occasions, like funerals (too many as of late ) and award ceremonies. As for medals, we do get Good Conduct medals but also a few get bravery awards like the Police medal for bravery, or the much coveted Canadian Medal of Bravery. Not that many recipients, but some, and of sourse UN Mission medals and the Canadian peacekeeping medal. While out on patrol, we don't wear the medals obviously but the bars.
    12. The Guards were born in the summer and automn of 1941 near Smolensk and Yelnya. because of the heavy fighting and heroic deeds, some of the infantry divisions attained the status of guards. On 21 May 1942, the Guards were officially recognized and a breast plate was introduced. The Guards were paid more than the normal troops. Reference: Borisov's book So, from what I was able to translate, it would seem that the division would obtain the Guards status for experience and combat feats.
    13. Gerd you seem to find quite alot at the flea market. Any other Soviet stuff?
    14. Yes there is. Where the badge was made I assume. There are 2 words. The second is Moscow but the first????
    15. Correct it is bad. The mint marks are not at the correct place. Not a good copy at all.
    16. Just purchased and received this badge. For your viewing pleasure. How would one be awarded this badge? Harvesting over quota I assume?
    17. Here is a website for you to view KGB/NKVD badges. It loads pretty slow but well worth the time. Will give you an idea of what the badges and documents should look like. http://nkvdcollect.narod.ru/photoalbum1.html
