Soviet A. A. Ulianov
Chuck In Oregon replied to Chuck In Oregon's topic in Russia: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
* * * * * Thanks, Rick. I thought it was just a vetting of some sort and that seems consistent with what you wrote. In my limited experience, the red scribbling was the OIC (of whatever rank) indulging in unsolicited comments. Chuck -
Soviet A. A. Ulianov

His NKVD spravka from 14 May 1939. If anyone would care to translate this for me, I would be grateful. I can read a little bit of it but not enough for it to make sense to me Enjoy. Chuck -

Here's his badge of #4 Battery, Caucasus Artillery Grenadier Brigade. I'm told that the #5 Battery bore the numbers 1812 and 1912 on the cannon. -
This is a small Imperial-Soviet group. I hope there will be some interest here. It includes a photo of A. A. Ulianov in his tsarist uniform, his badge of #4 Battery, Caucasus Artillery Grenadier Brigade, his screwback Red Banner and a 1939 NKVD spravka. Enjoy. Chuck

We don't do much in the way of sports awards here but I thought there might be some interest in this one. It's for the 1928 soccer (OK, football) championship of the Transcaucasus Military Region. The championship was won by the Transcaucasus Ensigns School (ZPSh). That is, if "praporchik" translates as ensign rather than warrant officer or "low officer". Corrections welcomed. I lean toward ensign because of the time frame. It looks like this is an overstrike or double strike, at least on the 9 and 8. Enjoy. Chuck

Italians (and others) in Vladivostok, c.1919

That is a terrific photo. Looks like an honor guard at the arch on the pier and double row of sailors to present the honors. Is that the VIP on the street going toward the farewell or are they waiting on the VIP to disembark? Since everyone seems to be goofing off at rest, I guess they're all still waiting for him to appear. Does anyone know what those characters on the left say? Thanks for sharing this one. Chuck -
I brought this group back from Tbilisi two weeks ago. The first item is an All-RKKA Championships award for military sports, which I think may be the pentathlon. This award is for second place in the all-army competition. As I understand it, the same prize was awarded for 1st and 2nd places, the only difference being the inscription on the reverse, while 3rd place was the same award but in bronze. As always, I'm open to correction.

* * * * * When I first saw this uniform I thought "This is nice enough to wear today." He has some nice things in his collections. It was a real treat to visit. [i submitted this previously but it didn't post. I've been having internet problems all day. Anyone else?] Chuck
