    1. Blind squirrel and acorn, I'm afraid. But I love this piece. I intend to sell it as I am getting rid of most of my collections and just concentrating on one or two areas of particular interest to me. In the rare times when I do acquire new things, they are mostly from the People's Republic of Georgia, 1918-1922. Very small niche but exciting when I do find new things, which I stil do. I have a small pile still to share here. I know most people have never heard of this topic but that's okay. I have a mentor in Tbilisi and we collect together.
    2. For sale right now on eBay: Oregoncollectiblesandcuriousities
    3. Thank you. It's one of my favorite civil pieces. I'm going to post anther one in just a minute.
    4. I haven't been around in a long time. This is a piece I picked up during my travels. Similar to Avers 8, item 622.a. but mine is in the original box.
    5. Yesterday was Border Guard Day, and this was filmed exactly 41 years ago. May 1983, motorized maneuver group of the 38th Red Banner Akhaltsykh border detachment of the Red Banner Transcaucasian Border District, border troops of the KGB of the USSR. Strengthening regime in the area of the Valeiskaya border commandant's office. This is my friend Nik-Nik, back in the day.
    6. I was really really surprised to discover this photo in that old box of photos and clippings. I almost threw it all away as a dumb purchase. No one I know has ever seen anything like it. Thank you for the very interesting context information.
    7. I shared this photo years ago. Today I enhanced it with Luminar 4 and this is the way it looks now. It was in a box of old photos I bought at the Dry Bridge Flea Market in Tbilisi. I didn't expect to find anything good but I came across this. Enjoy taking a good close look. It's very fragile but now it's saved forever. I think the staff fourth from the right may be aa guidon but that's only a guess.
    8. First time for me, too. Very nice.
    9. Good to hear, Paul.
    10. I haven't been active here in a long time. Mostly, life got in the way. But I just returned from Tbilisi again and I have a few new things I want to share, a couple of which may not have been seen on this forum before. I see that a lot of things have changed here in the last several years. First up is this badge commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Georgia State Militia, so 1931 I suppose. I can't find it in any of my references. Maybe someone here can help. About 15,000 in the militia at this time and (I'm told) only about 200 of these issued. Numbers from a Georgian historian friend.
    11. Any new thoughts on the little Red Cross badge?
    12. You’re quite welcome. I’ll try to get some others posted here.
    13. Great work, fascinating story. Thank you.
    14. Nick Here's one that you might like, especially if you collect Osoaviakhim.
    15. Looks like a ГД to me, too.
    16. Icebreaker? Saphire? I have several nice cigarette cases. Do you collect them? This is a particularly handsome example.
    17. I'm away from home but I have a good one. If this topic is still open next weekend I'll post it for comparison. I'm skeptical about this one but no one else has responded.
    18. This past winter. He's a pretty good friend. We made a trade that I told him was way too much in my favor. He told me he wanted me to have this framed painting so there you are. He is pretty famous and a number of people collect him so it's not like he has any trouble placing his paintings. This one has a prominent place in our home. So does the Guadalcanal painting. He has done a LOT of Civil War and Old West paintings. He's been featured on the cover of Old West and Civil War magazines several times. Don has a cabinet of prints that he no longer bothers with. Three are hanging in our home. I have many of them on a thumb drive. Maybe I should share them here, too. They are also for sale way too cheap because he just got bored with prints. I appreciate the chance to share his art here.
    19. Painting by Don Prechtel. From my collection.
    20. Very realistic. Great picture!
    21. Thank you for sharing these. Your work is unforgettable.
    22. Don is wonderfully talented and a fine historian. His passions are reflected in his art.
