The Medals and Badges of Camp Hearne, Texas
General2 replied to Nick's topic in State, Civil Awards & Decorations
Michael, Many thanks for this article, most interesting! Best regards John -
Hi. Does anyone know where i can get a rosette for this award? Ribbon is blue, as is the rosette. The standard size is 6mm for the small one and 28mm for the larger one. I am looking for the 6mm one. Have tried a few French sites but my French is not that good! Thanks

Hi Dave, He wore his Flak badge below his EK1. If you look at the picture on the right (very small i know) you can see the flak badge below the EK1. This picture is of him with another General (Generalleutnant Friedrich Frhr. von BROICH??) when they were captured in Africa (Tunis) by the Americans in 1943. Kind regards John

Hi guys. Thanks for posting your thoughts. Hi Rick. Both pictures are of Frantz Gotthard (apologies about mis-spelling before)...i know they are probably too hard to see here due to only being able to post up to 70K, but both men in the pictures look the same. How are you so sure that the lower left photo is not him? I will try posting them in separate posts when i get back from work. As for the ribbon bar...they didn't always match the medal bar did they? I am afraid no documentation came with this grouping, (so i see where you are coming from Rick) and neither did the pictures, that was just something i went and searched for myself to see if all added up. All items are original, but all original to Frantz i know it is/will be hard to say. This group was sold to me as you see it, as all belonging to Frantz. Again i know it is hard to prove that these items were actually his, but imo equally hard to prove that they were not his. My best to you gents! John

I never said post-war put-together, i just stated it was likely to be a put-together...you seem to have a problem with reading? How about we call it a modern put-together? Does this register with you? Even a modern put-together can be "tight"...i am sure it isn't hard to sew on medals tightly like they did 60 odd years ago....

Well said Kevin!! IMO the bar is a put together for the reasons you listed above, no soldier would have let such an obvious mistake go unchecked. I would be interested in seeing this guys other items that have incorrect ribbons...pehaps all bought from the same dealer? Kevin1261, as for your comment: "These are 57 items"....as if to say they do not matter? 1957 medal bars were most likely put together by the same military tailors and their families, who made the WW2 period bars, so they would not make silly mistakes? I used to own quite a few 57er medal bars, and the quality and workmansship etc was just as good as my WW1+WW2 Bars. John

Pierce, Firstly, 2 fantastic finds! I really like the Admiral's medal bar, and the Vizeadmiral's foreign decorations are great looking too!! As for this question above, it is likely that it is his medal bar but he just did not update it as you put it. This is not unheard of in my opinion but hopefully some of the experts can clarify this. Well done again John

Hi. Just looking at the medal bar.....the EK and KVK are on the wrong ribbons.....and i also have never seem 4 long service awards mounted like this...why or how would a WW2 soldier have the 25 Year long service cross? When these were awarded in 1957 did service count right up to 1957 or to the end of the war in 1945?? Thanks John
