Apologies I should have posted a picture of the battledress only it is for sale on the internet and I did not want to appear I was advertising it. However I have now discovered these tickets do have printed on them Metropolitan Paris and Chemin de Fer which I believe these could be Paris Metro tickets which is strange to find 1942 dated tickets in a British Battledress? Very Odd me thinks?

I have this battledress which is 1940 pattern but I cannot find an issue date. However I have found these 2 tickets inside the inside pocket. Not sure what these are for? They measure each 50mm x 10mm and are dated 1942.

Thanks Paul, I have them mounted on the wall in my spare bedroom/Office/Museum along with my other USA medal collections. The flag is an ex USAF staff car flag, the model B17 The Memphis Belle and the Aluminum dish is from the US Navy Academy. (Ignore the bayonet tip left hand, this is from my Lee Enfield).

As usual I can't sit still and leave things as they are so made some changes to the display and hopefully (he says) that's it. Added a MoH ribbon, Distinguished Service Medal, Pilots Wings and changed the Expert Rifleman for the Distnguished Public Service Medal.

Thanks for the input guys much appreciated. I also have a police whistle (numbered) and a 1939 dated whistle with a leather strap attached. I should imagine that this pattern was quite common and used by all the services.

I have a Hudson 1916 trench whistle with a fitted chain. The chain links have been soldered. I have been told that this maybe a Navy whistle due to the chain but not sure on this?

Looks very medieval, all you would need is a horse and a jousting pole.

All the wording and laurels have completely gone? Very strange. Has anyone seen this before and why has this been done? Could it be the recipient didn't believe it was The Great War for Civilisation?

Just acquired these 2 ribbon bars. Made by Wolf Brown on aluminium (aluminum) mounts with plastic casing over the ribbons. Top bar: Asiatic Pacific with 3 service stars , WW2 Victory & Philippine Liberation plus 1 service star. Bottom Bar: Bronze Star & Purple Heart. I have never seen ribbons covered with plastic before, was there a reason for this or was this something that was unique to the Wolf Brown Co?

Close up of the Navy Reserve set, Ribbon bar and Navy Cross.

Its taken me a while to put this collection together but got there in the end (today to be precise). Top left set of 5 to Naval Reserve with 10 year reserve medal. Below this set is medal ribbon bar for Vietnam service. Navy Cross is on 12mm suspender. Not sure if it was ever issued or is even a replica but a nice medal. All the other medals are original. Top row left t to right: Navy & Marine Corp Medal, Commendation, Achievement, Marine Corp Good Conduct (numbered) and Expeditionary Medals. Bottom row, left to right: Navy Good Conduct and Expeditionary, China Service, Occupation and Navy Rifle Marksmanship. Badges are Marine Corp cap badge top and Senior Chief Petty Officer Cap & Collar. I have posted the Marine Corp Good Conduct before, dates from around 1918. It has been enjoyale puttng this set together and searching for the medals and badges on the net and at medal and militaria shows.

Can I show mine please? This is a deac M1 with 30 round clip circa 1942.

On the rim of the medal you may find a makers mark for the likes of Simco or E H Simon (same company) or a (V) for Volupte. Also on the suspender there may be a mark or G code?

Don't you find thats all in the fun of medal collecting, the research and what you can find out about the medals recipient and then share this with others and this then brings the history alive. Keep up the good work.

Yes i totally agree but it was a good benchmark in choosing the other so had some worth.

Over the last few years I have experienced with my medal collecting the various levels of quality in their manufacture. Take for example the 2 US armed forces expeditionary medals I have posted. Although the left hand side has a 12mm crimp and appears to be an original issue and marked LI-GI which would date it to 1978 - 1986 the actual quality of the medal is not of the highest quality you may find on other US awards?The planchet is thin and the rim has a raised edge like it hasn't been finished or fettled at all well? The medal on the right however has a far better feel to it, 12mm crimp, (V) Volupte maker mark and finish is of a much higher quality and planchet is a lot thicker, smoother and medal feels heavier. The left hand version may be an original LI-GI or a restrike/fake whatever but I'm not sure or that bothered as I paid next to nothing for it but it enabled me to weigh up my options when I visited a militaria fair recently and a vendor had 4 of these medals for sale 3 of which were somewhat similar to leftie but the one on the right was far superior, that's why I bought it. Rightie is now mounted with 4 others, China Service, Defence, Korea and Vietnam Service all original and good quality made medals. Only the best for us obsessives.

Recently bought this postcard which has a picture of Wimereux Cemetry showing the graves of the British and Colonial army. What's interesting is what is written on the back. "The military cemetry in Wimereux France, where my son is buried." C R Sturrock. Catherine Ross Sturrock was the mother of Private 763047 George Holmes Sturrock, 24th London Rgt Artists Rifles, age 24, 19/11/17. Catherine resided 95 Ballow Rd, West Ealing London. His father David died 8 months after whilst doing national duty abroad. (Information from CWGC) With Remeberance Sunday tomorrow we sometimes forget about those that were left behind and this postcard written probably after Catherine had embarked on a pilgrimage to her sons final resting place is a reminder of all those famiies and their loss.
