    1. I would think though that the buttons that adorn his tunic's front closure are this type:
    2. Awakening another old thread due to my passion for the Railways related subjects.: So our man is indeed a "Высший начсостав - Maximum Commander" of Railways, just like you guys called it. The insignia regulation is the order of 1932 according to my reference. Fabulous photo Dave... The award group is nothing to sneeze at either.
    3. ...and my examples and a period image "backup":
    4. Awakening an old, but fairly interesting theme, I am pleased to show this. I purchased a similar pair of (Frontier Guard) boards a few years back, and my most of my Russian associates were convinced that they were fantasy works and/or "theatre" recreations... It took a few weeks of intense discussion until a thoughtful and well knowing associate come up with these two periode images. The end hypothesis was their construction was either self or tailor made early afterwards the 1943 regulations "overhaul" using "Church Lace"...
    5. Associate Rick R and I were discussing the "Period Photo As Hard Evidence" subject earlier today at the local "collector's meeting". This particular theme entered the conversation, and it just so happens that I have an image of them in use. If anybody else is able to contribute other additional images, whether it be original, from a reference book, or whatever, it would be welcomed.
    6. No games intended, least of all from the likes of me. Really... Mr. Vorovov does not read or write in English, so I assumed that I would simply show the images and translated text to him. They would not be posted publicly, so a watermark would not be necessary in any case. Nevermind Ed...
    7. Ed, one additional question concering the gymnasterka. The buttons seem to be the 18MM type, which does not present any type of question as they were used in great numbers along with many other types and combinations of. Perhaps it is my bad eyesight, or my monitor is distorting colors; Are they painted green or feldgrau?
    8. Field type "bottle" boards... For me, such a thing is quite a curiosity, to say the least. Personally, I have never seen a period image with them shown. Of course that does not mean that they never existed. Many things that the "professors" state never existed have been proven otherwise, with the admission of period photos as evidence in the debate. Does anybody here in the Gentleman's Club have access to an image(s) that pertains to this subject? Ed, I publicly request your permission to present your photos to the Russian author; Valantin Voronov, for his opinion. For all who may not know, Voronov is an NKVD-"phile", and is quite knowledgeable with the subject; especially concerning shoulder-boards & their attributes, and insignia in general.
    9. I especially like the chinstrap and the date stamp on the cap. Congratulations Ed!
    10. Exactly Dan... A perfectly acceptable alternative for a display backdrop due the reason that you have mentioned... Nice in any case...
    11. BTW all; The page needs a half a minute or so to load, even with a broadband connection... So have patience!
    12. ...and here also: http://www.fishki.net/comment.php?id=23011
    13. Stoooo! Perhaps these images will clarify things a bit. I see EXACTLY where you are coming from, going from old B & W shots, at a distance no less... Those tabs for senior commanders (the doubled "bars") do indeed to resemble "spools".
    14. BTW all - "collar tabs" translate into the word "buttonholes"...
    15. Sergey! Here I have information from our associate; "Flack". Please you will translate and explain. It will save me time and I believe you can get a more exact translation than I... Хорошо? "Вот, сравнительная схема петлиц: сверху - старые (1943, как у Вас на фото), снизу - новые (1944-55). И нарукавные (оригиналы): слева новые (с 1944), справа - "приказные" 1943." ВВ"
    16. ...and BTW Gentleman; bad contrast on that image in case none of you all had noticed... Also, there is a variant of the collar tabs. I know I have an image somewhere and will try to locate it shortly.
    17. Stoo, it seems that our Russian associate is correct. However, please show your period photos for at least my sake. You know how much I adore photos... In any case, your Mundir is still indeed a very attractive reproduction. I still do not own one, and stumbling upon a real one for sale at any price has not happened even once in the years I have been collecting. (also see post 29):
    18. Yes, exactly. Like the history of the other allies, who endured trying hardships, the history and the hardships endured by the Russian people were indeed amazingly heroic, and extremely interesting to me. This passionate interest began at a young age for me...
    19. ... и более интересные темы, типа этого здесь, уважаемого Серге́й может быть "хорошей вещью". You may start it. Use my images if you like (they hold my watermark), and I am certain Natalia and possibly some others will follow through in creation of a such a theme. Perhaps we will be able to add the results here?
    20. The best for last... 1939
