    1. Father Alan Ward attached to the 28th Infantry Bn, Finner Camp, Co. Donegal greeting the then Battalion Sergeant-Major "Daddy Joe" Cousins. Points to note:- Farther Ward* sports the 28th Bn Orange and Black Unit flash on the right shoulder of his uniform. He has the Western Command Flash on the other shoulder. His ribbon bar on the left breast is for service with U.N.I.F.I.L. in South Lebanon. Picture circa early 1980's. * As far as I am aware Father Ward is still serving with the 28th Bn to this date. Kevin in Deva.

    7. In my opinion its from a "Pattern Book" where examples objects of military clothing and Insignia are recorded in this case an insignia for a Prussian Military Shako (sp?) when a contract has been awarded for a specific item to be produced by a manufacturer, the manufacturer must contractually meet the precise specifications laid out in the contract with regards design and shape. Hopefully other members can add more with regards the translation, I think there are more details on the back of the page with regards the item. Kevin in Deva.

Kevin in Deva.

    14. Hallo H.G. In the book I mentioned above page 56 shows pictures of The Navy Medal 1925 but does not show the gilt anchor. Also a picture of the 1935 Navy Medal but with no devices. and there is a picture of the 2 classed of the 1974 Navy Medal. If you like I will take pictures and add to this thread. 15. I find it very strange that there is no blue enamel to the rear of this piece, especially as the wreath is coloured, and the background behind the Kings Cypher. The other lower classes have the cross in blue on both sides of the piece The sash looks similar to this type being offered at:- http://www.ebay.com/...I-/360273478379 another seller of New Romanian sashes:- http://www.ribbonssh.../romanian-star/ Your piece also looks very similar to the one being offered here, is it in fact the same item? http://www.rarusnet.com/product_info.php?products_id=13127 Kevin in Deva.
    16. Hallo Brendan, just a thought,is it possible that this was a proposed badge for wear by members of the "Irish Volunteers" before the 1916 Rising kicked off, I did see reference to such a group being trained under British military supervision in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, they even had an allotment of .303 rifles, which were subsequently stolen, the did meet regularly and do drill etc..etc.. many of them subsequently joined the British Army en-mass to go and fight in WW1, often being marched to the train station by their own formation Brass band. Kevin in Deva. :D
