    1. Hallo Mervyn, the old colour dies are made from natural ingredients depending from which area. I believe most British military ribbons can be obtained as modern replacement. To my way of thinking it would be more preferable to keep the old originals as is, and add modern reproductions for display. I have an original British MM given to a Romanian in WW1 came with a piece of original ribbon so I wrapped a modern replacement around it, rather than mess with the old soiled original piece. 2. The dye / colours can tend to run even with cold water, unless modern replacements can be located then I would leave them alone or consider turning them inside out. Kevin in Deva.
    3. Great picture and some interesting info contained with it. You have the guys name, including Family name, the fact that he way in the Chicago area. Some type of Legion cadet, dated to 1949, I wonder if he went into the military during the Korean War time.? He writes on the front naming his Romanian.Hungarian relatives, Auntie Irene, Uncle Dumetrie, Cousin Raduie (?) I wonder is it possible to do any form of online search in the USA about him. The example pictured sold very recently on Evil-Bay USA for $2,950.00 More detail will be added as I research more about this rare medal. Kevin in Deva.

Reserve Reg 3 Heavy Artillery, Decorated with Commemorative Cross "Marasesti" Born 6 February 1895 - Died: 1 March 1919 He took an active part in the war for unifying the nation. The medal appears to be an artistic rendition of the Romanian Commemorative Cross of War with the "MARASESTI" battle bar. Possibly the award came Postmortem and the family had it added to the picture for the monument. Kevin in Deva.
