Khyber
[attachmentid=49920]Are the HSL's researchable? I had such great results with my HSU recently tht I thought I would give this one a try. I have just the medal and no paperwork unfortunately. The number is 11371 who I believe puts it in the 70's. Any comments of guidance would be appreciated.Ron
order_of_victory
Heres mine, its number 7925 it has its Order Book but no cetificate.Order of Victory
NavyFCO
If you've got the name with the Ukaz date, they are researchable. Unfortunately, with just the award number, they're an official dead end.Dave
order_of_victory
Dave,Whats the Ukaz date Order of Victory
NavyFCO
Whats the Ukaz date That's the date on the right hand side of the award book. If you look at yours, it says "Ukazom Prezidiuma Verkhovnovo Soveta SSSR" across the top. That's the "Ukaz of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR" with the date of the Ukaz (or declaration, it could be called) next to the award. An Ukaz differed from a Prikaz in that the Ukaz is only from the Supreme Soviet, whereas a Prikaz is a declaration issued by a subordinate unit (such as an Army, Division, Regiment, etc.)Dave
NavyFCO
Here's what an official Ukaz, when published, actually looked like on paper. Sometimes they were just typewritten, but most were like this (this is for one giving awards to Civil War veterans in 1968.)Hope that helps!Dave
Paul R
So, was this title given to ALL surviving Civil War Vets?
NavyFCO
So, was this title given to ALL surviving Civil War Vets? Paul:Sorry for not being more clear! That's just an "example" Ukaz, as it's one of the few actually formally printed out military ones that are out there, so it makes for a nice presentation. This Ukaz was dated 28 October 1967, awarding decorations to many of the surviving Civil War veterans. These decorations included:Order of LeninOrder of the Red BannerOrder of the Red Banner of LaborBadge of HonorOrder of the Red StarMedal For ValorMedal For Valiant LaborMedal For Excellent LaborSo, if you see an award with an Ukaz date of 28 October 67 (like the one for the Red Banner attached) you know almost 100% that it was given to a surviving Civil War veteran for their part in the Civil War.Dave
