Mike Dunn Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 [attachmentid=50037]As some of you may or may not know, I like to pick up WWI German patriotic items. I received this medal today and it is the first of it's kind I have seen or owned. Would like to see others if someone out there has one. Really like this one.. First off it looks like a lot of other Bismark related medals. Hope to see others, Mike
Mike Dunn Posted August 14, 2006 Author Posted August 14, 2006 I like the back--roughly translates--We Germans fear Gott but otherwise no one else in the world...
Guest Rick Research Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Young Kaiser Billy there canned the old Chancellor early on for basically bossing him around, so this must date about 1889.
Mike Dunn Posted December 19, 2006 Author Posted December 19, 2006 (edited) well, today I found this--seems the Kaiser had a medal as well Edited December 20, 2006 by Mike Dunn
Mike Dunn Posted December 19, 2006 Author Posted December 19, 2006 (edited) This one is a reversal of the first with Bismarck in the middle. Now I know there are at least two different medals like this--any others out there?? Mike Edited December 20, 2006 by Mike Dunn
Stogieman Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Hey Mike, those are interesting and I cannot remember seeing these before! Cool, bought them in Germany??
Mike Dunn Posted December 20, 2006 Author Posted December 20, 2006 Hi Rick, yes they are from Germany.. By the lack of new posts of other similar medals--guess they are unique in a way..Happy to have them! Not a fancy enamel item--or cased piece but I have a lot of fun picking up items like this--glad not many others share my interests! Mike
Mike Dwyer Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 and now it would seem that Hindenburg has gotten into the act.Uh, Mike, that's not Hindenburg, that's Otto von Bismarck.
buellmeister Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Mike, I have an interesting medal commemorating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Franco-Prussian War. Not necessarilly period made for the event in which you have started this thread, but a beauty in her own right. Patriotic none the less. Sorry to divert you off course a bit.Regards,Joel
buellmeister Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 (edited) Reverse Edited December 20, 2006 by buellmeister
Mike Dunn Posted December 20, 2006 Author Posted December 20, 2006 (edited) Hey Mike your right-my mistake. That kinda makes more sense then as the first one I got has Bismarck on the medal and the Kaiser on the inside-the new one is just the reverse of the first. Maybe there were only two in the series then..Time will tell I guess. I'll correct my post Thanks! Mike Edited December 20, 2006 by Mike Dunn
Mike Dunn Posted December 20, 2006 Author Posted December 20, 2006 Joel-that is a super medal. I have a few regimental medals and medals commemorating various events. Don't have the one you have but this is one I got recently..maybe others can post their's as well. Thanks.. Mike
buellmeister Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Mike, thank you for your kind words. Your medal is a beauty as well! Regards,Joel
