DavidM
HelloCan anyone say if this is a good, original 1813 EK2 ?Any help, advice or comments greatly appreciated. The description of it is:Iron Cross 2nd class 1813. The core which is cast Iron is undamaged but most of the black paint finish has gone giving a Iron grey finish. The cross is 42 mm wide approx and the loop is unmarked. The soldering is not so good and the frame is split in a couple of places on the internal arm of the cross. Many thanks in advance for your help. Stogieman
Looks like a ground down 1914 that was buried for awhile to me.Core doesn't look right at allFrame is not consistent with originals I have seen/handled/owned

DavidM
HelloMany thanks for that. I've looked and looked at this one on the dealers site for a while, and I just couldn't place it with any others I have seen in books or on forums.I won't be bothering with this one then. Daniel Murphy
I agree it is a modified 1914. The original early 1813's had oakleaves that looked more like cabbage leaves and that zig zag stem is a dead givaway. Most real ones have a thin staight stem on the leaves. DavidM
HelloThanks for that Dan. Useful information. I had my own suspicions about it, which is why I posted it. As I said, one I'll not be bothering with.

gregM
Don,IMO this one is fake. It is posted on WAF and George has posted a link to a threadthat discusses a cross that was deemed to be fake and matches the on posted.
Tom Y
No, I don't like it. The finish is too smooth for a sand cast piece and the cores were blackened, not enameled.
dond
Thanks guys. I searched the old threads here and it is called ok in one of them. I'll dig it up later and correct it. I guess the hunt is still on.
