Here is some info to the Unit, your Comrade Baturin served in:

    86th Tank Brigade

Formed February 1942 at Chelyabinsk in Urals Military District with:

    232nd Tank Battalion

    233rd Tank Battalion

    each Battalion equipped with 7 KV?s, 10 T-34 and 10 T-60

    86th Motorized Rifle Battalion

    Antitank Battery (4x76mm cannon)

    Antiaircraft Battery (4 37mm guns)

Im May 1942 the 86th Tank Brigade moved to Moscow Military District, where it was assigned to the 12th Tank Corps. In July 1942 it was removed from the tank corps and became a seperate support brigade, first in Bryansk and later in Voronezh and Southwestern Fronts. In late 1943 the 86th Tank Brigade was shipped back to the Moscow Military District, where in February 1944 it was disbanded to provide the HQ and cadre for the 12th SU Brigade.

Nice ones, Doc and Gerd! :jumping:

Let me just cross-reference here my single Glory 3 to First Sergeant of the Guards Alexandra Vasilyevna Grebenschchikova, Sanitary Instructor of motor rifle company, 1st Motor Rifle Battalion, 29th Guards Order of Bogdan Khemelnitsky 1st Degree Motor Rifle Brigade of Unech, The Guards Tank Ural-Lvov Voluntary Corps.

    Her recommendation:

"When fighting against German invaders Guards First Sergeant Grebenschchikova was among the first to cross in the forging of the River Oder [ca. 22 Jan 1945] and under strong machine-gun and artillery fire rendered medical assistance to 75 wounded. She took 63 heavily wounded persons with their personal weapons away from the battlefield.

"The Guards First Sergeant Grebenschchikova deserves a government award, Order of the Red Banner."

Downgraded (approved March 1945, awarded March 1990) to a Glory 3.

    Dear Doc,

great RS - congratulations  .

A "doctor 2nd rank" = Lt.-Col. ? At Baturins "Award Card" he is adressed as a major of the medical service  ?

Besides Baturin's first RS, which is a battle award, the combat medal, the other RS and RB are long-service-awards (10-15-20 years in service.

Do you know, which rank - Maj.-Gen. ? - had comrade Baturin at the end of the 1950s, which seems to be the end of his military service in the Soviet Army?

    Dear Ed,

the downgrading in your "Glory-case" had been strictly against the regulations and statutes  .

On 23rd of august 1941 comrade Stalin himself signed the Order No. 281, "Concerning the procedure for recommending combat medics and stretcher bearers for government awards":

"The following recommendations are implemented to encourage the combat efforts of medics and stretcher bearers:

    .....................

    3. Recommend the awarding of the order of the "Red Banner" for each medic or stretcher bearer who carries 40 wounded with their rifles or light machine guns fromt the battlefield;"

The 63 wounded in Grebenschchikova's case are even well above the mark of 40 in Stalin's Order No. 281  .

    Best regards

    Christian

    Christian,

Thank You for your comments!! I wasn't aware of Stalin's Order # 281. As for Baturin's rank, this is all the information I have. I may request Service record.

DEFINITELY worth researching Doc-- he was still active duty in 1954, so must have made it at least another rank up to Lieutenant Colonel.

You never know until the results come back....
