Beautiful badge, Rick. When do you think, was it produced? From what i have seen so far, they used brass for these badges until the end of the 1950ies? Is that true?

I bought it off of eBay for under US$10.00 plus the cost of postage, was I ever surprised when the seller took my offer? :Cat-Scratch:

I had an opportunity to look at this earlier Guards Badge. The quality of the metal/enamel was very surprising and oh so consistent with 1960's Soviet produced badges. Cracked, chipped, or whatever.... I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Yeah, it is impossible to know how to "value" items with absolutely ZERO information.

I have never in my life bought for investment, only personal satisfaction, but nobody--not even me-- wants to pay 3 or 10 or 20 times NOW what something is going to be available for after the change.

Rare? Common? How can we know NOW?

As a young man in 1993 I was in exactly that same position when I started collecting Russian ODM's. Then again.... it was not so hard to go so wrong way back when!!!

I regret I regret I regret so much!!! But I am happy nevertheless!!!!

So true! (Although I was not young in 1993 and am less so now! :speechless1::cheeky: )

But every single regime which I have seen collapse since South Vietnam in 1975 has led to a brief surge of outward sell-anything-for-cash followed by a gradual-- and often retroactively :banger: process of education-- by which time the supply dries up, and mere mortals can no longer afford whatever "it" was anymore.

Cuban offers the advantage of being more "accessible" at least regarding the language than Russian or Mongolian for most of us-- although being contrary, I had Russian in school but not Spanish, since there was ZERO Hispanic presence in my state back then--and we were all preparing for a World War 3 that scooted right past us ALL into a completely unanticipated World War 4. :speechless:

And given the "DDR Model," when the regime changes, it seems HIGHLY unlikely that ALL Castro-era awards will continue being worn as if only the uniform patches have changed. Some may, but some certainly will NOT. Nobody EVER loves a secret policemaan from the Old Regime and Revolutionaries get short shrift after any Restoration!

Greetings & Salutations! Since the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics is forever gone, who makes the Soviet-style badges for the Cuban army now? Do they simply have large quantities oif old stock on hand or what is the story there I should wonder? Who would have expected to see some much militaria kept put away after the fall of the Tsar and suddenly it is offered on the market? Maybe Cubans are the same and they have hoarded treasures their grandchildren will sell for ready cash? I've gotten a lot of Castro issued stuff from Miami, Florida, how is that possible? Mu nadges like that Guards Badge is not chipped or crack and I got it under ten dollars from eBay, someone in Miami who offeres them and that rectangluar one with old Fidel on it, had no idea others were seeking these too? Maybe I just get lucky all the time, who can explain it otherwise? :Cat-Scratch: (POST SCRIPT: My cat, Clovis Lee Booker here, with my beautiful Puerto Rican wife of almost 30 years, nothing to do with the collecting of Cuban badges, of course!) :catjava:

That is definitely a demonically possessed cat.

Here is the Fraternal Little Brother next to the original Big Brother:

I must say that the quality on the Fidelista one is better than any Soviet Guards badge I have ever seen.

    Ahem-

Stogiedude....the "supplier" has indicated that he will have more cuban items at the next show. As you said, it's been too long...

Dear God, what happened to that cat? :Cat-Scratch:

CLOVIS LEE BOOKER the cat has cancer tumours all over his skin, some are exposed and we put medication on those like the ones on his forehead, he does not seem to notice? He lost one ear that was infected as he scratched open two large melanoma tumours, otherwise he is normal and he also collects Cuban insignia with me and re-arranges it for me when it is spread out on the rable, he inspects each new item. Clovis unders many languages which include Armenian, Korean, Roumanian, Spanish and of course, English, a very smart cat, indeed! :Cat-Scratch:

    Greetings Friends!

I realize this is an old thread but I just picked up 2 Cuban Guards off of ePay for what I would consider cheap.

I have as of yet found any information concerning who would be issued this badge and why and I can't find one picture of an Abuela o abuelo wearing one.

Does anyone out there have said information?

    Thank you all in advance.
