Christian Zulus
Dear Charles, many thanks for your expertise .Well, the badge doesen't look sooooo old, so it might be a 3rd class. It's really strange, the 3rd class looks much more impressive, than 1st & 2nd class .Best regards ChristianHi Christian - this seems to be the 3rd Class - or the first award given out. The sivler and the gold grade do not have an enameled wreath (strangely enough).
Ulsterman
Nice badge! Only 3rd class had a wreath?! I learn something every day.
hunyadi
Ulstermann - Going off what I translated from the Blue Bible (1978) - the awarding went as follows - B) There are three requirements to attain ?Socialist Brigade? (Szocialista Brig?d) title or the ?Excellent Workers Brigade? or the ?Excellent Youth Brigade?. First all titles are given out for the exemplary accomplishments carried out during the period of one year. Secondly additional awards can only be given out after the required previous title is bestowed upon the collective. Thirdly the title must have the appropriate proof and documentation that the collective was able to exceed their yearly pledged goals. These titles do not carry any monetary award. The ?Socialist Brigade? title is given on the occasion of the first year of service. Each member of the collective is to personally receive a certificate of the title. For the second instance in which the ?Socialist Brigade? title is given, a small green wreathed badge is bestowed in three classes: gold, silver and bronze. The next highest class is awarded when the members of the collective already poses the previous grade. Proof by certificate is required for individuals to be awarded the next highest class.Perhaps there are others out there that can shed more light on the subject of the 'first badge' given out - as only a 'bronze' colored badge seems to have come with the green enameled wreath - if you look at the other previous posts where the badge's are silver or gold in color they do not have the green wreath. I posed the question to the director of medals at the National Musuem and showed him the regulation and he was just as confused as I was and explained it away as something that was probably called for - but never follwoed through with. Kevin - looks like you have an earlier version with the hot enamelPeter - I just want to ask what are the characteristics between the old and new Brigade Flag? Can you also post the various types of your badges - looks like you have several of the variants there (zink, hot enamel, cold enamel, etc...) Gordon Craig
It has been a while since I came across something new for the Socialista Brigad thread but I did today. It is a small plaque commemorating the "4th Nation Wide meeting of the Leading Socialist Brigad's in the Iron-Metal and Electrical-Energy-Industrial" areas. It took place on 18-19 February in 1972 The plaque is the same shape as the Bronze, Silver and Gold shields presented to Brigad's and came in the same holder.Regards,Gordon Edited December 13, 2007 by Gordon Craig

Gordon Craig
SasaYU,It appears to be gold class but pictures can be deceiving. Compare it to the pictures that show gold and bronze classes together.Regards,Gordon
SasaYU
I think than mine looks like the one in the hunyadi's post, first row, in the right corner.
hunyadi
Hello SasaYu - From the image it looks to be a gold class, but the looks of the metal can be decieving especially under the camera. As for a value - they were probably the most manufactured award of the HUPR and are very available in Hungary - when you get out of the borders - they do get more scarce and slightly more valuable. I think one sold on Ebay (USA) for about $5 not too long ago.
Yildirim
About the prices, I would reccomend to everyone the hungarian auction site, www.vatera.hu . There is the greatest offer and the best prices
Gordon Craig
Yildirim,Vatera is a good site for those who speak Hungarian. Since most sellers on Vatera will only accept Bank Transfers in payment it makes it too expensive for North Americans to use. It is also littered with faked uniforms.Regards,Gordon
