    Recommended Posts

Can someone identify what flying bage this is. I assume it his his graduation badge. He was a fighter pilot.

A better photo of what it would look like would be appreciated. The attached photo is from 1945.

    Thanks

Could be a graduation fighter pilot badge, issued in the late 30's early 40's; see an example at <a href="http://collectrussia.com/DISPITEM.HTM?ITEM=16466" target="_blank">

Some variants exist, of course. If it is really this type of badge, that the firts time I see one worn so late in the war.

Thanks that does appears to be it. A little pricey for a badge $1450 :speechless1:

If any one has any other examples please post them.

    Thanks.

There are illustrations of variants of this badge in the booklet ABERC (Avers) N? 2, Moscow, 1996, p. 133-134.

Unfortunately I am new (and not very proficient) at sending images but I shall send details ASAP.

Basically, these badges depict a stylised I-16 fighter (one must remember that it was a kind of Soviet "Top Guns" at this time, and which is more, successfully battle proven in Spain and China).

They feature too: wings (except some 1932 versions, so says my reference booklet), crossed swords, a red star and either a laurel wrath, or a shield (classical) or rhombo?d.

    All the best

I think it depends on where you're going.... but for me, I'd rather bite the bullet and have the real one. The difference in quality and appearance; as well as the value in the long run, is worth it to me. The Pilot School Badge that Igor has was mine and remains the only legit one to surface in years. Remember that they stopped handing these out very early in the war and quite literally, most went down with the pilot early in the war. There's simply so few around, the chance of finding another legitimite one is slim to none.

Thanks guys. I would prefer original also. But price is high for me. Just don't have that kind of coin laying around right now.

The copy on german ebay is poor. The one being sold by another ebayer is much better but he wants too much for a copy. But he says it is original.
