Chris Boonzaier Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 This is a really large pic, I assume it was blown up after his death and the EK1 added. Is it 1st bavarian infantry? Pic taken in trostberg, no date.
Gerd Becker Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 That looks like you have painted it yourself on the picture. Thats quite a bad job, even for that time period. The EK 1 looks bizarre.
Roeland Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 (edited) the EK1 sure is clearly added, in my opinion quite special to see these kind of add ons, but to answer the question, as far as I can see it is the 1st, not sure though the shoulderboard is somewhat difficlut to see for me. Chris Boonzaier Posted March 2, 2007 Author Posted March 2, 2007 I assume he was photographed with the EK2, later awarded the EK1 then killed. The family then having the photographer add the EK1.Its seen pretty often on WW2 RK winner pics.BestChris
Chip Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Chris,Not the 1.Inf.Rgt.K?nig.... it was a cyphered regiment. It could be the reserve regiment (I assume one existed) or the 1.Pionier Bn., or 1.J?ger Bn., or 1.Train Bn., etc. Pretty hard to narrow down with no cuffs to look at.Chip
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 The only potential help is that the phot was taken in Trostberg....The question is... which "1" was based there, or close to it? I would assume as he is not a crusty old fart, and he had the EK1, probably a combat unit?
Chip Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Chris,On my corps map, there are no units stationed at Trostberg. Perhaps the map only represents line units and Trostberg could relate to some reserve type unit. I have no info on where non-line units would be located. Chip
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 Could also have been on vacation in Trostberg and nowhere near his unit :-(
Dave Danner Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Bayerisches Landwehr-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 1 was raised in Munich. Bayerisches Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 1 was raised in Munich, with its III.Bataillon in Rosenheim. Trostberg is 44 kilometers northeast of Rosenheim and about 90 km east of Munich. The 1. Pionier, Train and Telegraphen units were all in Munich. The 1st Bavarian J?gers were in Freising north of Munich.
