Christophe Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 I've tried to find information thoughout the Forum, but am not sure about it... So, I ask the experts of the Forum, who will have the right answer, I'm sure. I'm totally novice with mongolian awards... This Mongolian doc has been awarded to General-Major Giel (DDR). It is part of a splitted group. The doc is without the medal / order, so I really don't know what it is relating to.What is this document ?Many thanks in advance.Cheers.Ch.
Christophe Posted March 11, 2007 Author Posted March 11, 2007 Inside of the document.Award # 23262.Many thanks for your help.Cheers.Ch.
Vatjan Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 (edited) Christophe, isn't there one more inside page following this one?Jan Edited March 11, 2007 by Vatjan
Christophe Posted March 11, 2007 Author Posted March 11, 2007 Hi Jan,Yes there seem to be other pages. But these pics are the only two I have.Do you think it is not possible to ID this document only with the pics I have posted ? If yes, I will have to wait for the doc to arrive...Ch.
new world Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 The doc is definitely for the medal, not for order.William
Christophe Posted March 11, 2007 Author Posted March 11, 2007 Thanks William. But, I'm afraid it is difficult to tell which medal without seeing the other pages... And the number is the one of teh doc, not the one of the medal... Am I correct ?Cheers.Ch.
Ed_Haynes Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 It is a standard, normal, award document. Award section not shown.
Christophe Posted March 11, 2007 Author Posted March 11, 2007 OK. Thansk for taking time, Ed.I will keep you informed of the nature of this document, when I have received it.Cheers.Ch.

Vatjan Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 (edited) What medal/order it is, its number and award date are written on the following double page.Judging from the number on page 1, I would guess it is a 1980's honorary labour medal.Jan Edited March 11, 2007 by Vatjan
Christophe Posted March 11, 2007 Author Posted March 11, 2007 Jan,It has been awarded to General G?nter Giel, Chief of the VP and Deputy Minister of the Interior (DDR). Cheers.Ch.
Vatjan Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Hahaha, that will teach me trying to read the post diagonnally when I have little time, and then making bold statements Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.I say we wait for the doc and check the inside doublespread, before I embarrass myself againBest regardsJan
Vatjan Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Oh what the heck, let's start a Mongolian award quiz So on second thought and after more thorough consideration I'd say a Polar Star Order, awarded around 1983.Jan

I believe it is an Order of Polar Star, SN 23262, awarded on 17 June 1982.It should be, according to the classification a : (A 33.3/M 12.4) -- Type 4.1 (Pinback, silver); Low = 15074, High = 30409; 1970-2003Am I right? Could you confirm? And, what's the meaning of the n? 147, in the far right column of the doc ?Now, just have to try to put hand on this Order, as I have only the doc... I know, it will be along shot... Thanks to all for your help.Cheers.Ch.Pic : ? Christophe ? ChR Collection

Christophe Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 I would start with major dealer web sites, then check serial numbers list here on GMIC.And post some Wanted ads, here and there... Cheers.Ch.
Ed_Haynes Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Most importantly will be to send out the plea here. Though I suspect his is (was ) in DDR. Fate unknown.
Christophe Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 Most importantly will be to send out the plea here. Though I suspect his is (was ) in DDR. Fate unknown.I'll certainly do it. But, according to Giel's widow, it makes a while this order has been "lost" . And, apparently lost in DDR... I'll put some of my contacts in Berlin on the case.Cheers.Ch.
