order_of_victory Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I was sent the pictures by a dealer as Polish items, I was just wonder if any one coluldshed any more light on them
Kev in Deva Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 NextHallo O. o. V, the cross appears to be the Polish Order of Military Virtue, the insignia possibly a Polish Regiment Badge, again caution is needed with these items because like Russian Imperial items there are known fakes, but I suggest you ask Lukas to have a look being our resident Polish expert Kevin in Deva
Kev in Deva Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I would also ask the dealer to send a picture of the rear of the cross, they are issue numbered.Kevin in Deva
Dave Danner Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 The Virtuti Militari Silver Merit Cross, judging by its appearance, is a current republic version. Since none have actually been issued, the ones you see on the market are basically reproductions for the collector market. The regimental badge is for the 66th Kashubian Infantry Regiment. As Kevin notes, these are heavily faked.
speedytop Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 (edited) Hi O.o.V.sorry, only in GermanPoland:4. Zaniemenski Ulanenregimentand66. Infanterieregiment Marschall Pilsudskis KaschubenRegardsUwe Edited March 25, 2007 by speedytop
Lukasz Gaszewski Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Uwe is right! The badges are of the 4th Zaniemenski Lancers Rgt. and 66th Kaszubski Infantry Rgt. of J?zef Pilsudski. It is dangerous to judge just from the photos, but to me the VM looks like a modern copy of the pre-WWII type, too. The ribbon doesn't look genuine, either. Could you post the photo of the reverse and the dimensions of both the cross and ribbon? There should be a number on the lower arm.As of the regimental badges, the photos of the reverses would be nice too. The 4th Lancers badge is the officer type (the NCO type had no enamel). The "U4" on the lower arm is slimmer than usually found. On the reverse there was usually the number and recipient's name, but that was not always the case.Lukasz
