Kev in Deva Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Hallo Alex K, even with the wrong ribbon its a sweet cross and box, feel free to post a picture of the rear.Kevin in Deva.
Alex K Posted April 7, 2007 Author Posted April 7, 2007 (edited) kevin just for clarification, should I be looking for this ribbon but with the KD swords attachedthanks Edited April 7, 2007 by Alex K
Kev in Deva Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 (edited) kevin just for clarification, should I be looking for this ribbon but with the KD swords attachedthanksHallo Alex K You only need the ribbon, as the Swords on the "Karl Troop Cross" ribbon should not be there, in my opinion.Sometimes finding the Austrian swords alone is very hard Kevin in Deva. Guest Rick Research Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Swords on the generic war ribbon were only authorized at the end of 1916, for all awards using that ribbon EXCEPT the Bravery Medals.
Lukasz Gaszewski Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 It shouldn't be difficult to obtain a replacement ribbon (even an original one) for your MVK. Your swords will fit it well!
Josef Rietveld Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 @Alex,nice Cross in rare type of box. your cross is a variant type. this crosses were sold for dedications. therefore the backside center was made of silver (for engraving) instead of the usual white enamel.if you ever want so sell. feel free sending me an PM hayna
Alex K Posted April 10, 2007 Author Posted April 10, 2007 haynau thanks for the info, for the time being I'll hang onto it but if I decide to sell, I'll keep your details on fileregards
Alex K Posted May 9, 2007 Author Posted May 9, 2007 Just to resurrect this for another silly question, How are the swords attached to the ribbons, I've had a look and can see no obvious method of securing the swords, were they sewn on? there doesn't appear to be any pins through the ribbon.regardsAlex
Kev in Deva Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Hallo Alex, I have checked whats the method of fixing attachments for swords on my Austrian bars, all have thin wire, for the purpose. Please see attached pictures.Kevin in Deva
Kev in Deva Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Push-stud fastenings on the rear of the ribbon.Kevin in Deva
Alex K Posted May 9, 2007 Author Posted May 9, 2007 Hi Kevin thanks for the reply, I'm sure I had a look at the back of the ribbon, unfortunately it's tri-fold so it was difficult, and didn't see any, however I'll take another look. BTW like those press studs!RegardsAlex
Kev in Deva Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Hi Kevin thanks for the reply, BTW like those press studs!Regards AlexHallo Alex, there was many versions of them too,Kevin in Deva
Alex K Posted May 9, 2007 Author Posted May 9, 2007 Not wishing to para-phrase but WOW! ?not seen these before, are they particular to AH awards?regardsAlex
Guest Rick Research Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Yes-- clips or snaps to fit over the horizontal loops by which each individual award or its ribbon was weakly and messily attached.
Alex K Posted May 9, 2007 Author Posted May 9, 2007 So that's why many period photo's show little loops on their uniforms without any dec's, presumably when you received a decoration you just slipped the ribbon bar into pre-sewn loops! clever.Alex
Alex K Posted May 9, 2007 Author Posted May 9, 2007 Kevin, Thanks for the comments, However as I said in earlier post, I would have another look, the results are attached, summary, no stitching on the front and no pins on the back!! what else Glue!!!regardsAlex
bazsi Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Most of the cases when the backside center damaged from wear, used to replace it with silver center. I saw one with navy button center once, but I think it was a modification by a collector.Regards,Bazsi
