DDR FW Helmet: Genuine?

Is this a genuine Feuerwehr Helmet? I am referring to the "abzeichen" on the front of the helmet. FW is not an area that I collect and that is why I am wary. Personally I think that it would have been added on later and is not original.

Any thoughts/comments?

I would say that this is probably a made up helmet. Someone trying to convince us that there was an NVA fire service and that they put these crests on their helmets. Wearing crests on firemen's helmets was widespread in the Bundesrepublic and Austria but not in the DDR.

Research into who provided fire prevention service to the NVA might be interesting. Something for the future?

The insignia is that of a dress visor. Unless there is something I have not seen before, I agree that this is a fantasy piece.
