HeikoGrusdat Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 (edited) Rick I am always happy to help a bit because often enough I need your help... can you tell me what that ottoman medal is for - now I have no idea???Heiko Edited August 14, 2005 by HeikoGrusdat
Bob Hunter Posted August 14, 2005 Author Posted August 14, 2005 Handsome multinational bar! Seems we have Turks and Greeks peacefully coexisting on the same bar.
Guest Rick Research Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 The red and white ribboned medal in #26 is the "Sanay" Medal "for arts and sciences."It was often given, God alone knows why, instead of a Liakat for noncombatant merit before and even during the war. My late guru had a group to a CHAFFEUR who got this in the war, apparently for lack of anything more appropriate that anyone could think of!
Guest Rick Research Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Slowwwwwwww forward to 2009:Here's a LONG delayed follow up. I was going through Baden's horrible Z?hringen Lion WW1 rolls and lo and behold FINALLY found what Lieutenant Ibrahim M?nir is wearing in last place. The stripes are wrong wrong wrong which is what threw me off hunting for a Saxon Albert Order:but here he was-- Z?hringen Lion Knight 2nd with Swords (BZ3bX) on 18 January 1916:There is NO way that what he was wearing was the green and orange Baden ribbon, but there we go. Looks to me like he's wearing another EK2 ribbon only with Xs on it.

Hi Heiko, I quote an article from Werner Sauer Info 59, Oct. 1988: Grün-Rot des türkischen Herrscher-Hauses, die Orange-Farbe des vom Sultan getragenem höchsten preusischen Ordens (Roter Adler Orden) red-green from the ruling Osman house and the orange from the Sultan highest prussian order Red Eagle Order.
