Nahhhh: too flat. Nice ribbons though. Sew-on bar: brilliant. :banger::speechless:

Sooooo, why isn't your group mounted up? THINK of future collectors! :catjava:

Ahh, patience my fine feathered Garuda. They are mounted, and I did it myself too, I just haven't got round to posting that photo yet.

What... ??? they give sailors medals as well, surely you guys are too spoiled!!

I have heard the ADM being called the A....hole medal, as every one has one

My motto, if they were giving away dirty socks, I would go and get a pair, just to give

some damned pen pushed the pip. In all honesty it is good that they have gone to the trouble

to recognize service to those who served but didn't go overseas or last long enough to get

a long gong, just a bit of a shame they never stayed with the original design of the medal

when it was first thought of. (tri service badge on the obverse and old style suspension bar)

What is your trade patch Johnsy ??? Radar/Radios ???

    Nice ones, Johnsy!

While some may differ, I like the current Australian medals.

    Thanks for posting.

Yes, I agree Ed. They cop quite a bagging. But as you can see in the pictures they are good strong strikes and the 15 year medal seems to be the best, as it should be. It stands to reason that the ADM would be the poor cousin to the rest as they will have to hand out over a million of them just clear the backlog and will continue issuing them forever more as personnel qualify for the initial enlistment. I think I would be safe in saying that this is the most prolific award given to the Australian military to date.

I am miffed that they put that bloody new serial number on my DLSM instead of my original service number; they still stamp it onto my ID tags, why not on what is arguably the most significant medal on my rack? :banger:

    1. Ahhh yes, three squares a day and all the AC you can handle...

    2. We call it the Hat Wearing Medal (everyone has one of them too) or the Defence Short Service Medal... :cheeky:

    3. Go wash your fecking mouth out!! Radios my a##e, I'm am an Electronics Technician, but my core trade is Weapons, all the big stuff mind, not those piddling small arms... :violent:

No offence really taken mate, my trade specialisation is Hydraulics, and I'm trade trained as an Electrical Fitter Mechanic, then I had to change to the ET branch. But it all boils down to me being a weapons technician first and foremost, and these days you need to be able to work high power, low power, electronics, mechanics and hydraulics as they are all used in a modern Weapons System.

Thanks gents for the complements and encouragement, you sometimes ask yourself if it is worth it when a majority of the population can't even recognise what your uniform is...

RAS Badge rear. Note the makers name "AMOR", they have been making these badges since WW2.

Box of issue. I have kept all the boxes etc. so some lucky collector will have a complete collection one day. A small detail, this box smelt old when I got it, like it had been in storage for many years prior to issue. Probably was, as prior to East Timor there hadn't been a great deal going on since Vietnam, and our deployment to the first Gulf War was limited and was predominately naval patrols.

For Rick Research's benefit... and all those future collectors. :cheeky:

Here are my medals mounted. They were mounted by me, not perfect, but it gave me a sense of satisfaction that I attempted it and they turned out looking reasonable. If I only had two then it would have been a much better job.

    Looking Good !! :jumping:

I have to admit that the Aussie awards are growing on me as well.

With the exception of yourself they are little seen.

My only Australian medal reference (besides the internet) is The National Honors & Awards of Australia by M Maton, which is a good 'general' starting point. Since its printing in 1995 I have had to make several updates.

It must be the difference between your screen and mine mate, the pictures seem to be fine when I check them, but I have noticed that if I log onto different computers that the phots seem a bit on the dark side.

Hallo Johnsy, the original is nearly pure black and you cant see any of the letters, the two brass clips look normal though. (on my screen, and all your other pictures are fine.)

Johnsy, as 'pitiful shoite' as the ADM may seem to some, it's at least 'something' - and significantly more than I ever - or am likely ever - to receive from the British government. All I have to show is a pair of battered kindneys and a shattered liver - and rampant hair loss.

    My god man!!!

    You have no hair!

Its over-rated mate, or why else would you spend two-thirds of your life pushing it back up your own arse... :cheeky:

This is what is known as the the Sea Readiness Badge, and it is a visual indication of how much time you have done at sea. This indicates that I have done between 8 and 11 years at sea. This is my original issue and it looks at bit light in the photo, but it is actually a deep gold. The later re-issues and badges bought from "slops" (clothing store) have a poor finish.
