So far I have the Romanian, Polish, and the D.D.R. badges.

actually I have a Russian version as well, although this does incorporate an aeroplane / glider in the design

as does the Hungarian M.H.S.Z. badge

    Kevin in Deva.

    Kevin,

A comment on something I failed to note peviously. M.H.S.Z would not be written like this in Hungarian. They do not use periods to separate the the first letters of each word and sz is one letter in the Hungarian alphabet. The short form of the name of this organization can be found written on badges etc. as, M H S (first short form) M H SZ (second short form) and M H Sz (third short form).

    Regards,

    Gordon

Did you find the badge in Russia? The article mentioned above stated that AVSAP organised international competitions with participants from similar organisation in neighbouring countries, so in principle there could be several such badges around in the former socialist countries and vice-versa (foreign badges in Romania).

These were all mentioned in the article apart from the bottom two

Romania AVSAP (Association of Volunteers in Support of the Defence of the Homeland)

Bulgaria DOSO (Voluntary organization for participation in defence)

Soviet Union DOSAAF (Voluntary Society of Assistance to the Army, the Air Force and the Navy)

GDR GST (Association for sport and technology)

China CCDS (Central club for Defence and sport)

Czechoslovakia Svazarm (Union for Cooperation with the Army)

    Poland PLZ (?)

    Hallo Eddie,

thanks for the additional information, Poland is P L Z see the badge picture.

    Hi Kev,

Yep, the question mark was because I couldn't find you a translation of the initials which was rather wierd. In fact I still haven't even seen another of those badges you have

I'll keep it in mind whilst browsing around though. I would like to know if they were State financed too. Also that H C C T badge is haunting me, where is it from?

you was looking for info? probably seen this but here you go.

    But I think:

    AVSAP

    members in 1959 - 1,380,766

    members in 1960 - 2,343,103

On the 3rd March 1962, the name changed to Uniunea de Cultura Fizica si Sport (UCFS)

Thanks Eddie for the addition. However, I was not asking about the existence of other organisations, but whether there were competitons in other countries as well.

Actually, the AVSAP organisation was disbanded in 1962 and its assets were taken over by the UCFS (The Union for Physical Culture and Sport).

Anyhow, congratulations for reading the lengthy article in Romanian.

    This is bulgarian badge.

Another piece, (picture from a online sale from a couple of years ago) origin unknown to me.

Gordon info is very scarce on this organization here in Romania, as for Poland hopefully one of our

Polish members might be of some help.

    Thanks Anatoly, Guys,

I got a reply back today from Mr Artur Sniegocki on the Polish badge.

Artur Sniegocki works with Stefan Oberleitner, a well known expert and author of books on Polish awards and badges.

    http://klub.chip.pl/asnieg/index.html

It should be read LPZ, see below:

Orginal name is: LPZ (Liga Przyjaciol Zolnierza)

    History, names, Polish organization:

1944 - 1950 TPZ (Towarzystwo Przyjaciol Zolnierza, eng: Company Friends Soldiers)

1950 - 1962 LPZ (Liga Przyjaciol Zolnierza, eng: Alliance Friends Soldiers)

1962 - LOK (Liga Obrony Kraju, eng: Alliance Defender Country)

The Polish organization was: LPZ (today LOK)

Yesterday, Timisoara was the host of another collectors fair.

Since this was announced only one week before, and Suceava and Bucharest have had one at the same time, it was pretty low in interest.

But the person that I've seen one year ago with the moto AVSAP badge was there. Lucky for us he has way too high prices to sell it.
