Gordon Williamson Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 This photo comes from the album of a U-Boat commander and the photo was taken during his commander training period in the Baltic. Both officers are wearing the usual officers grey leather deck jackets, but look at the headgear of the officer on the right.
Max Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Fantastic! The KM M43 exists?? There's got to be more period photos of these, somewhere! Perhaps they were used more in training and on land, than in Service at Sea? Great research Gordon...CheersMaxwww.atlantik-pirat.com
Paul R Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 I can understand why they would not be too popular. I dont think that it would be too pleasant to wear a saltwater soaked wool cap for very long.
Langemark Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Hello All,About twenty years ago, the opportunity was offered to me to obtain an unquestionably original enlisted ranks KM-Einheitsfeldm?tze. I didn't buy it just because it then fell out of my collecting theme. But for sure, KM-M43 existed. Before someone asks : no, I unfortunately don't have a picture of it ...Best,Marc
nesredep Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Hello!I found the Photo in this book. All the best Nesredep
Snoopy Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Hello! The M43 in used. All the best NesredepHelloI believe that the sailor in the picture, is wearing a side cap. What looks like a visor, is actually a fold in the jacket of the other sailor. If the pictures in this book was taken during the fighting for Narvik, the M-43 would not have been issued yet.All the bestSnoopy

Gordon Williamson Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 Hello! Gordon Look at the book:DIE UNIFORMEN DER DEUTSCHEN KRIEGSMARINE 1935-1945,Enzo und Laurent Berrafato page.89. All the best Morten. Hi Morten, Yes, thats a very interesting photo. For those who don't have the book, it shows several KM personnel wearing pea jackets and what appears to be dark blue M43 caps, in a photo taken after the surrender.
