Stogieman Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Medalla " Combatiente de la Lucha Clandestina" Wonder what this one was for?? Sneaky stuff, I'll bet...Ribbon Example:
Guest Rick Research Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Hmmm.... smirking psychopath arsonists. What successful revolution can do without 'em?
Taz Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 (edited) Awarded in recognition of active participation in the fight against the batistiana dictatorship until the definitive triumph 1st January 1959 and to have maintained a consequent attitude with the revolutionary principles. Eddie. Edited August 8, 2007 by Taz
Guest Rick Research Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Any idea who the nameless Alfred E. Neumann represents?
Ulsterman Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 (edited) This isn't the Frank Pais medal is it? He and Che hated each other-apparently over a girl (who presently lives in Boston, Mass). Edited June 6, 2008 by Ulsterman
Stogieman Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 Looks very much like the same man... see the Order here:http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=14309&hl=pais
Guest Rick Research Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Just in-- again the "Staybrite" reflective finish (most accurate at the ring) defeats the scanner. This has CLOTH "normal" ribbon and not the lawn chair strapping type:Does "normal" ribbon indicate anything as opposed to the "strapping" type? Earlier? Foreign contract? Random manufacturer lots?Came on the apparently random colored cloth/flocking/paper insert, standard "DDR" type plastic case with clear lift off top (cracked as seems fairly usual-- humidity?).So much we haven't got a clue about yet.
Guest Rick Research Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 MUCH nicer-- and one to add to the Typology thread. This quality-- and this production IS quality-- can't have anything to do with early versus late-- since the same completely distinct qualities of finish can be found in 1986 Armed Forces Jubilee Medals. ...I'm wondering if Special Comrades rated better quality awards--in which case are ther many more in the matte/staybrite types... or is this simply an overachieving sub-contract manufacturer who had pride in its product? Some day we will know!
Guest Rick Research Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 I am very pleased-- to our friend fizztouch to be able to show an example of the award booklet:Inside, with the name computer-obscured so nobody gets into any trouble with the regime down there! This is dated 1981, so apparently awards went on for some years. It must have been difficult establishing bona fides after such a length of time.
Ed_Haynes Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Very very nice to be able to see the image. Perhaps it may become legal for US inmates to collect these soon.
Guest Rick Research Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Having had regime change HERE before THERE ... no doubt. But I would remind folks that while the regime has NOT changed THERE, please be very sensitive to repercussions to the people there and passing through there who are advancing our knowledge at a time when it is literally dangerous for them to do so.Some day we may be "one world" but not, alas, yet.

Twice, at least.
Guest Rick Research Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008  I have been jealous of Eddie's medal--for one thing, it is almost impossible to SCAN the shiny "Staybrite" finish ones and I don't have a camera.
Guest Rick Research Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 It is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much EASIER to scan the "pretty" soft gold finished type! Notice that no matter which type of gold finish the medal has, the medal and ribbon bar pins for BOTH types are the flat C-catch DDR type. These must have been made in the DDR... but by two different factories?
Guest Rick Research Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Another award booklet having turned up, it can now be surmised that "all" (i.e. both so far) were issued on 2 December 1981. That scratches any "early/late" pins theory, and leaves the mystery regarding two types of medal finish. Thanks Greg!
