This is the smallest first type of '39 EKII spange I have on a ribbon bar. The device is so small and the curvature so subtle it is difficult to scan and show both ends clearly. It is 13mm high.

Here is a 9mm high '39 EKII spange on a mini half height sew-on ribbon bar.

I suspect there may be even smaller ones on lapel stick pins.

Sometimes, if I stare at it long enough, I can convince myself that it is a type I... wink.gif

First one above was made by Otto Schickle-- very distinctive head, wings around head, etc.

    Bunch of them:

And for comparison... the EK+Spange combo next to a first pattern lapel pin EK2 spange and a ribbon bar mounted Schickel style EK2 spange which are a more seemly 11mm.

As you have pointed out, the curvature of the date bar in these first pattern mini's is notoriously difficult to capture on 'film' ... but the reverse of this lapel pin version clearly shows the curvature.

Dietrich I think has one of these as well, but you don't see the first form lapel version that often.

But Beware the Hideous Mashed Marshmallow Easter Chick Spange, the most common fraud-- note it trying to hide its face under its wing in shame, and the out of horizontal lurch to the wings. There are others out there, but this is the most common BAD one

Certainly not the smallest, but an "L/15" by Otto Schickle. What do you gentlemen think of this one? It is not mine, but these photographs were sent to me by another collector. . .

Interesting thread. I've seen these spanges in 6mm, 9mm, 11mm. and a whopping 19mm. all on ribbon bars. Also, keep in mind there's a 24mm. "Prinzen" spange that was officially produced and mounted on medal bars.
