Panzergrenadier Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 (edited) I was looking at old threads on the WAF about EK / KVK 2 cases, and since I am not a member was not able to post pics. The discussion goes something like that these cases were only made for KVK 2's. I differ. I have seen two different types, and it has always been my assumption that one of the types were for EK 2's rather than KVK 2's. Further discussion is encouraged. The first two show the difference on the sides, as well as the measurement of the resting area for the awards. I was going to measure them, but my electronic ruler's battery ran out. Edited September 17, 2007 by Panzergrenadier
Panzergrenadier Posted September 17, 2007 Author Posted September 17, 2007 (edited) The second set of pics shows a full view of the resting areas, and an EK on the one with the smaller resting area. Notice that it does not fit. Edited September 17, 2007 by Panzergrenadier
Panzergrenadier Posted September 17, 2007 Author Posted September 17, 2007 Third set shows the difference on the LDO logos, and a KVK in place on the smaller resting area case.
Panzergrenadier Posted September 17, 2007 Author Posted September 17, 2007 Last set shows both awards on the large resting place case.
Panzergrenadier Posted September 17, 2007 Author Posted September 17, 2007 The statement used as part of the evidence was that the ring of the EK does not completely fit in the case. However, it can be closed when the award is in the case.
Dave B Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I've always associated these red boxes(no matter what the colour of the inner base is) with KVKs not EKs,considering a KVK fits the box nicely but the EK doesn't says it all really.Dave
Gordon Williamson Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I'm with Dave on this one. These brown cases, whatever the colour lining, were for the KVK. Quite apart from the fact that KVKs fit in them perfectly and EKs don't there was a specific listing of the types of cases to be used for each award for LDO pieces. This was published by the LDO in "Uniformen Markt" and listed the appropriate case colours ( these are the Halbetui type without press stud).Black for EK II, Brown for KVK, Blue for Loyal Service Decoration and some others, Grey for Luftschutz and so on. So the colour of the case is definitely significant and an EK should not be in a brown case but a black one.Very nice cases anyway. I'd rather have these than the EK version.
Panzergrenadier Posted September 18, 2007 Author Posted September 18, 2007 Thanks for your thoughts guys.

It should be publicised more widely, if only to stop people cramming EKII into the wrong boxes and damaging them in the process (which I have seen).
Scott Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 For reference, here's a dark blue LDO Civil Service box (paper hinge, no clasp). The interior is much too small for a EK or KVK.Scott
