Gordon Williamson Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 This has to be just about the rarest ever U-Boat commanders cap. The tropical Kriegsmarine Schirmm?tze is rare enough in its own right, but here it is with traditional white top for a U-Boat commander.
Monsun Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Hi Gordon, you are right, thats really the rarest u-boat commander cap, worn here from Kapit?nleutnant Wilhelm Dommes at his time as commander of U 431 (29.U-Flottille, La Spezia & Toulon). And you now, he was later second commander of my favorite u-boat U 178 and CIS! Regards,Monsun
Monsun Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Hello Gordon, this photo (and yours) are made at the 15. april 1942 in La Specia/italy.Please look at the shoulderstraps!Regards,Monsun
Gordon Williamson Posted October 3, 2007 Author Posted October 3, 2007 Yes, straps as Kaleu ! Interesting also that the cap has not only metal eagle but also metal oakleaves/cockade.
Paul R Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Yes, straps as Kaleu ! Interesting also that the cap has not only metal eagle but also metal oakleaves/cockade.That is an interesting photo. It looks as if he needed a uniform in short order. The straps are the ones used on the Summer white uniform, right?Interesting how they are attached by the button after being passed through a slide for the slip on boards.
