    Hi Gordon,

    you are right, thats really the rarest u-boat commander cap, worn here from Kapit?nleutnant Wilhelm Dommes at his time as commander of U 431 (29.U-Flottille, La Spezia & Toulon). And you now, he was later second commander of my favorite u-boat U 178 and CIS! :D

    Yes, straps as Kaleu ! Interesting also that the cap has not only metal eagle but also metal oakleaves/cockade.

    That is an interesting photo. It looks as if he needed a uniform in short order. The straps are the ones used on the Summer white uniform, right?

    Interesting how they are attached by the button after being passed through a slide for the slip on boards.
