Colin Davie Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Interesting the large group to fighter pilot Viktor Bauer in Detlev's update today, in the photos shown the Demjansk and Krim shields appear to attached without backing cloth, never seen that before.C
Paul R Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Actually, this is the only way I have seen these attached to LW tunics. I have seen two tunics with the sheilds removed from the backing and punched straight through the sleeve.
Colin Davie Posted October 26, 2007 Author Posted October 26, 2007 Interesting, is there a practical reason for it? Maybe just looked better without the cloth LOL.C
Paul R Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 I think that it would have been for the sake of appearance. I think that it would be prone to fall off applied in that manner.
J Temple-West Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 For what ever reason (I suspect that it was probably down to 'style') it seems to have been popular method of attachment for all branches of the Wehrmacht.A couple of examples.Luftwaffe.Heer."I think that it would be prone to fall off applied in that manner."Paul, don't forget the backing plate.
nesredep Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Hello!Note Narvik without backing cloth.RegardsNesredep
