Michael Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Hi guys. Did they produce these with double color piping like this? I spotted this for sale yesterday and thought it looked funny. I've seen a lot of tabs but I don't think I've ever seen any like this.Mike
Laurence Strong Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 The blue piping denotes a reserve officer. Looks OK to me
Michael Posted January 25, 2008 Author Posted January 25, 2008 Thanks. I didn't know that. I learned something new today! Mike
Paul R Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Hi guys. Did they produce these with double color piping like this? I spotted this for sale yesterday and thought it looked funny. I've seen a lot of tabs but I don't think I've ever seen any like this.MikeYes! That is a nice Luftwaffe Reserve Flak Leutnant tab. These are not exceedingly common, but not considered to be very rare either(at least not the Flak or Flight examples). Before the war, the Luftwaffe had a Reserve Officer program. Just about every Luftwaffe waffenfarbe(except Hermann Goring- as far as I know- and Field Divisions) had a reserve officer component. The blue piping is what distinguished the Reserve Officer from the Active Duty counterpart. Here are some examples... I know that Gary B has a set of Reserve Medical Officer tabs and Gary 9 has a set of Reserve Construction Officers tabs Here are mine... Reserve Flak OberleutnantReserve Flak LeutnantReserve Flight HauptmannReserve Signals Leutnant
Paul R Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 The shoulder boards were the same as the Active Duty component, except for the addition of a blue middle layer.
Michael Posted January 25, 2008 Author Posted January 25, 2008 Thank you Paul! I had no idea. I didn't even think about the reserves. I really appreciate the lesson sir! Mike
Paul R Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Thanks for thread!! It is always great chatting with anyone with interest!
Gary B Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Hi, Paul has covered the topic well here. To see some other Reserve tabs please view the database. The reserve tabs are far from common, based on my observations, in terms of rarity, I would rank reserve waffenfarbes as follows (from "easiest" to find to most difficult): Flak, Flight, Signal, Medical, Engineer (Pink), Construction, Admin. Gary B P.S. I have not seen Gary's Construction Reserve tab!!!!!

Gary B Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 (edited) Hi, I hope this works. I am attaching a scan of my Medical Reserve tabs I pulled from the Gallery section.Gary B Edited January 30, 2008 by Gary B
Michael Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 I like those! I just picked up a nice Major's medical tab but it's not a reserve.Mike
Scott Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Stunning Medical Reserve tabs Gary. I love the little "V"s on the gulls.Scott
Michael Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 What do you think is a fair price to pay for a tab like the one I posted? Is $50 too much?Mike
Paul R Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 I think that 50 dollars is well below dealer price for the set.
Laurence Strong Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 (edited) Is it a set, or a single tab? For a single that would be a little high. Edited February 2, 2008 by Laurence Strong
Michael Posted February 2, 2008 Author Posted February 2, 2008 Well, it is a single. I thought $50 was too high. But I was unsure. Now a set, that would be different.Mike

Michael Posted February 2, 2008 Author Posted February 2, 2008 I guess I should have mentioned that it was a single. My fault. Mike
