VtwinVince Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Hi I've had this in my collection a while, is it real or a fake, any views appreciatedregardsBTW the ribbom is a replacementAlexDetails are not good, and the color is strange. Not to my liking.
Guest Rick Research Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Iss that silver color really there? These are normally fantastically gilded over bronze.
Alex K Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 Hi I must admit that I have my doubts about this one, I'll try to post better photo's, the scanner does'nt always produce a good imageregardsAlex
Mike K Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Hi,From the single pic provided so far, I also do not like what I see. This one looks very shiny - too shiny. It looks more ?gold plated that gilt finished. It does not have the colour/effect of tombak or fire-gilt. Even the early 57ers were still fire-gilded. Withough examining it, I'm thinking a good electro-plated casting.RegardsMike
David Gregory Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I have to agree with Mike. The image may be very poor and misleading, but it doesn't look good from here.
Alex K Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 (edited) Hi gentlemen, had a closer look at this, I assume the genuine article this was produced as a die stamping, looking at the edges, it appears to be in two halves with a seam similar to an EK1, silvery base metal, I concur therefore that it unfortunately a lemon, perhaps you could confirm, before I consign it to the land of trashregardsEdit or MAYBE i've discovered a very rare silver gilt version!! David Gregory Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Before it is destroyed or otherwise disposed of, it would be a good idea to post the weight and dimensions.
Alex K Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 Hi David, I'll try to do that for future reference. I will not of course consign it to the trash can but put it with the other unfortunates I have collected over the yearsregardsAlex
