Honestly, the historical content of this one puts any Charge of the Light Brigade group to shame. Repeat after me: "Potemkin". (Though a bit more evidence would be a nice touch, it seems kosher.) And, even though it is far outside my field, I can see that.

But, then, some would rather have 3,516 (more or less) essentially identical and totally history-free 1914 EK2s?

Whatever gets you through the night?

    Hi,

I am aware of what "Potemkin" is, but fail to see why this would have such a dramatic effect on the price...

    1) On an intrest level, why would it put the Charge of the light brigade to shame? That is an extremely subjective statement.

    2) Historically speaking there are dozens if not hundreds of events that changed the world, or captured the worlds imagination, and they are to be had for anywhere from EUR10 to EUR10 000.

    3) The awards are not for the Potemkin, so it is just "Extra info" anyway.

You can also buy about 5000 Iron Cross award documents, and believe me, they would be waaaaay more researchable than this.

History is to be had for way better prices.

Ahh... we did not get through without the double standard cropping up....

How many unnamed IOMs would it be?

The velcro tells me this item was on display by someone somewhere. I'd hate to think some museum employee has de-assessed it....

    Hello,

I think that the velcro-tape was put on the group from a collector, not at a museum. Although important, I think that until the recent past, this was just a very interesting group and no National Treasure.

Under my point of view (as a collector of Austrian orders and decorations), the top would be to find a set of the "Villiers-en-Couch?" medal. Such a medal (possibly with the subsequently awarded Maria Theresia Order), compared to this russian duo, would be like putting on a same level resp. the Koh-I-Noor and an industrial sapphire.

Still, with the highest respect and the most sincere consideration to all collectors of Russian awards.

But National Currency Unit "value" is always in the eye of the beholder, after all.

One collector's Holy Grail is another's yard sale item, fairly often.

I happen to have an almost supernatural knack for finding Rarity Without Monetary Value, myself! :catjava:

    :cheeky:
