landsknechte Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I'm guessing this messkit might be Soviet, judging by the colors. Can anyone confirm?
perce Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Hi Looks like a German mess kit to me -here's an image of another one in slightly worse nick than yoursCheers Perce
David Gregory Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 The bottom half of the first tin shown above looks like a post-war item. The lid may be also, but might be older.
perce Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Hi Here's a post war painted in wartime colours-looks like your beastPerce
Sergey Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Yes it can be but it is model of the eightieth years. Here the Soviet model of the fortieth-fiftieth years in typical Soviet military color.
Belaruski Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 At the museum in Auschwitz there is a room piled high with pots pans etc. that the prisoners brought with them. On the top is a Soviet mess tin like the one posted above by Sergey.

Enigma Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 This is a moderen mess kit. I believe it is German in origin. At least the predecessor is German. The two numbers you find on each part is the year it was made. 80 will be 1980. (The same on all the WW2 ones I have had as well.) I was issued the same when I was a conscript and it was definitely not WW2. It should have an internal part as well that you can attach to the handle. Kind regardsEnigma

Russian always studied at Germans. So was since Peter Great's time.Look history-Russian and Germans were friends more, than at war.
Enigma Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 (edited) It would be interesting indeed if these mess kits were made in Russia. I am almost willing to put BOTH my hands into the fir to defend the claim that it is a standard NATO West German mess kit. I have seen huge piles of them here in Norway while we still had an army. There are thousands made and the colour is the right one for the time period of its manufacture.Kind regardsEnigma Edited February 28, 2008 by Enigma
