With up to 2 Battalions of soldiers supporting their tanks and self-propelled guns, they repeatedly attempted to counterattack Comrade Vtorushins position. As head of battery, Guard Lieutenant Vtorushin insured straight and accurate return fire from his guns. When the enemy tanks and self-propelled guns were within 300 meters of his position Comrade Vtorushin opened fire destroying 1 enemy tank and self-propelled gun. Comrade Vtorushin?s straight and accurate aiming of his artillery also thwarted the enemy infantry?s impact on his position.
