Elmar Lang Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 (edited) Hello, during my cataloguing works, I've encountered a piece, about which I cannot find any info, although I think I've seen it already, somewhere...Material: silver, with nielloed black details (in the Caucasian style?); diameter 5,5 cm.Attached, the pictures of the obverse and reverse. If it's a very well known decoration, please don't laugh too loud at me...Thank you very much in advance,EnzoObverse face: Edited September 1, 2008 by Elmar Lang
Guest Rick Research Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Not a clue. Perhaps a patriotic watch fob/jeton?
Ed_Haynes Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 (edited) Interesting. Rick's suggesting is tempting. What is the size?? Oh, 5.5 cm, reakllky really big Edited September 1, 2008 by Ed_Haynes
Lapa Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Enzo,The symbolism is very much in the style of civil-war era Central-Asian production, and especially of Bukhara.Marc
Elmar Lang Posted September 2, 2008 Author Posted September 2, 2008 Hello, thank you very much for the information and help.Yes, the medal is large and I think it is neither a watch's chain pendant, nor a jetton. I can't read the lettering in the scroll under the Hammer and Sickle symbol, but yes, style and manufacture are those we see on ornaments made in Central Asia.I've spent most of yesterday night searching through old catalogues and books, but no success (I am sure that the book/catalogue where I've seen that piece is the one I've lost or hired or... whatever.Could it be Khoresm?Best wishes,Enzo

Even though I could not find this specific medal, based on some of the others that I saw, I agree that this was probably from Bukhara.-Alex
