Guest Darrell Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Here are a few of the NATO medals I've had for a while. Standard issue.1. The NATO Medal - Bosnia
Guest Darrell Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 3. The NATO Medal - Former Yugoslavia
Ed_Haynes Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Thanks. Interesting to see US manufactured pieces of these medals.
Guest Darrell Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Thanks. Interesting to see US manufactured pieces of these medals. Thanks ED. Apparently the US is a tad anal about the other campaign "bars" to the NATO medals.
Ed_Haynes Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 You put in mildly, Darrell, you put it mildly.
bigjarofwasps Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 It might be of interest to know, that the first two are US issue, as they have no bars. The bottom one is like the type that was issued to UK troops. I also think I`m right in saying that none of these medals are currently issued. The current Balkans issue is Non-Article Number 5.The most recent NATO issue medal is for Afganistan, however, British troops are not allowed to wear it? Not sure if the US can, I would think yes....
Elvis Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Hello Darrell, in germany we are allowed to wear the clasp on the ribbon bar. Our ribbon bar is 25 x 13 mm. Today there is only one mission without the clasp. It is for the service in MACEDONIA in our language MAZEDONIEN. Is there a posibilty to upload bigger files than 70 K?Then i will send more of my ribbon bars. Thanks for your replayElvis
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I find the Nato ones silly like the UN ones.A logical step would have been one UN medal for all campaigns, with bars. Ditto for the NATO medal.Nothing more impressive than a silver IGSM with bars... As much as I like medals, I think UN and NATO have led to extreme medal bar inflation.Just my humble 2c..
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 All seem to be made with the same die, can it be the US ones only have a different pin?BestChris
HenkWillem Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 This is the first time I see US manufectured pieces. The only one's I have seen where the Belgium versions: http://www.eekelers-centini.be/catalog/ind...109d3e9e3b406f4

But there must have only been a handful of them at most. Hope this helps?
Elvis Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Hello The Monkey God,thanks for your information.I got a few sets boxed. NTM - IRAQ.I will keep some for my collection. The other ones ......
The Monkey God Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009  No worries, glad to be of help to someone.
The Monkey God Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Just out of interest, did the US issue acampaign medal for Bosnia? If so do US troops wear both the Nato & the US medal for this campaign?I assume then that the same would be true for Afghanistan, but what about Iraq?I know Britain, didn`t issue a medal for Bosnia, her soldiers just wear the Nato medal, however, they aren`t allowed to wear the Afghanistan one, as they are issued with an OSM for that campaign. Now assuming that you qualified for the Iraq medal on one tour and the Nato for another tour, then you would be able to wear both?

ItemCo16527 Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Forgot to add this last night. This is the Nato Medal with Former Yugoslavia clasp in its box of issue. It has the French-style "fork" to attach it to the uniform, as opposed to the standard pin-back.
ItemCo16527 Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 This is a British Army medal bar featuring the UN Croatia Medal and NATO Kosovo & Non-Article 5 Medals.
leigh kitchen Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 The UN Medal's the UNPROFOR, United Natons Protection Force, predecessor of the UNMIBH, United Nations Mission in Bosna & Herzogvina, rather than UN medal for Croatia.
ItemCo16527 Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Weird. I always see it identified as the UNCRO Medal. Looking at the UN's site further adds to my confusion http://www.un.org/Depts/dpko/medals/unmibh.htmNeed more caffeine. Then this will make more sense to me :D
