SAMedals Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 A Few Malawi Medals not often seen.Malawi LS&GC
Ulsterman Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 nice and unusual-and they look a bit British (made and designed).
NPGilbert Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Morning SAMedalsQuite Right. These images are very scarce to come by, not to mention information on the awards.Do you have these medals in your collection?RegardsNorman
SAMedals Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 Hi Norman, Unfortunately no. They are quite rare.Gary.
censlenov Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) Hello GaryI have a questionThe Regular Army and Prison medals say long service and good conduct on the reverse where as the police medal say meritorious service. Would the police medal be an MSM and not LS&GC. Are these named to the recipient?CheersChris Edited February 2, 2009 by censlenov
Megan Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Looking at the ribbons, if they have followed the British style that is indeed likely - LS&GC medals are in an appropriate colour with white edges, MSMs have an additional central white stripe.
NPGilbert Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Hi MeganYour observation is quite right. The police medal Gary posted must be a MSM. I found images of the police LS&GC medal and it confirms your observation with regard to the ribbons. Here is the obverse of the medal.RegardsNorman :D
fjcp Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 (edited) I had a look around at various dealer websites to see what I could find and of the dozen or so I checked only Liverpoolmedals had any... They have a nice bravery medal for sale too!!!JCliverpool malawi Edited February 3, 2009 by fjcp
censlenov Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I believe these long service awards should be named and most for sale which aren't are a result of Spink surplus getting onto the open market. I've seen a Malawi police LS&GC in hand before and it was named in a style similar to british medals.CheersChris
SAMedals Posted February 4, 2009 Author Posted February 4, 2009 Hi Chris,The first 3 medals on this topic were never issued and are un-named.As you have no doubt seen the responses above that the Police one is a MSM, as LS&GC medals do exist. Thanks for your interestGary
fjcp Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I hope the good people at liverpool medals don't mind me posting this one.....A named LSGC.JC
