    Morning SAMedals

Quite Right. These images are very scarce to come by, not to mention information on the awards.

Do you have these medals in your collection?

    Hello Gary

    I have a question

The Regular Army and Prison medals say long service and good conduct on the reverse where as the police medal say meritorious service. Would the police medal be an MSM and not LS&GC. Are these named to the recipient?

    Cheers

    Chris

Looking at the ribbons, if they have followed the British style that is indeed likely - LS&GC medals are in an appropriate colour with white edges, MSMs have an additional central white stripe.

    Hi Megan

Your observation is quite right. The police medal Gary posted must be a MSM. I found images of the police LS&GC medal and it confirms your observation with regard to the ribbons. Here is the obverse of the medal.

I had a look around at various dealer websites to see what I could find and of the dozen or so I checked only Liverpoolmedals had any...

They have a nice bravery medal for sale too!!!

I believe these long service awards should be named and most for sale which aren't are a result of Spink surplus getting onto the open market. I've seen a Malawi police LS&GC in hand before and it was named in a style similar to british medals.

    Cheers

    Hi Chris,

The first 3 medals on this topic were never issued and are un-named.

As you have no doubt seen the responses above that the Police one is a MSM, as LS&GC medals do exist.

    Thanks for your interest

    Gary

    Hi Megan

Thanks for posting such beautiful medals. Would not mind to have both in my collection, but for now I will keep on dreaming.
